Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHey ladies, the media says we don't care about bodily autonomy.
We dont care if our daughters and granddaughters lives are set back 100 years. We dont care if they are raped and made to have the child and co-parent with said rapist. We dont care that our girls will die because of ectopic pregnancy. I guess we also dont care that men will decide our hopes and dreams.
Are they right? I dont think so. Lets show them what we care about.

(10,212 posts)Luckily DU doesn't take kindly to GOP talking points.
We are all so much more worried about economics according to the corporate media owned by the filthy rich.
But the kicker is the 3 worst economic crashes we have had were a direct result of GOP policy and happened on their watch.
So, I think Biden will do well for the economy considering it's capitalism and an unstable economy by it's very nature.
I'm more worried about women's bodily autonomy right now. It is under attack by people who believe in imaginary super daddies in the sky right now.
I don't want religious GOPers making decisions about my daughter's and granddaughter's lives. Because GOPers always make bad decision especially when being guided by their imaginary beings.

(6,934 posts)and I see bodily autonomy as one aspect of that issue. A big aspect. Every single one of us, regardless of gender, is in danger of losing all autonomy. And that certainly includes the media, who appear to be laboring under Stockholm syndrome.

"Watching people who largely make less than $40,000 a year talk about how raising the minimum wage would destroy the economy is one of the most impressive examples of Stockholm syndrome I've ever seen."

Instead, they're pushing the inflation, economy, crime, border, etc.
A guy friend told me yesterday that it's down to about 5% that still care about it, everyone else has forgotten about it.
Ridiculous! I said I don't believe it, and I don't think anyone is prepared for the WAVE we are about to see... well, we're prepared

(2,599 posts)Whether it's an abortion because a baby, or another baby, isn't in the cards, so to speak, or whether they're facing an ectopic pregnancy emergency, fetal anomalies, or they've been raped, "their" women will be able to avail themselves to whatever it is they need or want. They'll see to facilitating whatever needs to happen. Just ask Herschel and his sponsor tRump.

I think we are farther ahead than what the polls are telling us. I have not 'believed' in them since 2016. I respond as a Democratic Committee member in an extremely red county in NJ - that we flipped the county seat (my borough) in 2018 to Democratic/Liberal.
The only House Seat I'm worried about us not retaining is my Congressman's - Malinowski. Trenton sacrificed his district for Mikie Sherill's.

(32,902 posts)The other thing not being taken into consideration is how many republicans died of
COVID.
Farmer-Rick
(10,212 posts)And I went there yesterday for my booster.
Mostly the COVID vaccine walk in clinic is pretty empty. One or two people ahead of me with hardly any waiting. But not yesterday. It was swamped yesterday. A 2 hour wait with a bunch of mostly conservative grumpy old men. And I live in a very red state.
I think the GOPers have caught onto COVID vaccinations. Maybe they got tired of dying off?
Who let the cat out of the bag?

On the deaths - yep. They aren't weighted for reduction in population of a district - even if the district was redrawn - between 2020 and today.

your friend. Your grandmother, even.
I read you here, and you are articulate. I write here, and I know Ive had a lot to say going all the way back to my grandma, just because my mom used to talk to me.
As a young girl I knew why there was a 7 year gap between my moms next-oldest sib and herself, and another 7 years before her last brother. Its because grandmas doctor told her if she kept having a baby every year it was going to kill her (she had 4 in the first 5 years of marriage ) . Grandma got married in the teens of the last century dont you think thats relevant to now?
Dont cuss out the media write to them of your lived experience.
We all have a story, and because we are women we also carry the stories of all the women we have a relationship with. Tell those stories.

(9 posts)I volunteered to work the polls on Election Day. This election is very personal to me.
When I was 19 I had an ectopic pregnancy and had to have my right ovary removed.
at 21 I had endometriosis causing a chocolate cyst in what parts that were left requiring me to have hysterectomy at 21.
The point to this is if I had not been able to have the surgery, I would have been dead at 19 and that looks a long
way from the 70 I am now.
For the sake of all the women in the world VOTE, if you don't, this may be the last chance you will ever get.
onecaliberal
(32,902 posts)As did the other 4 family members in my house. Straight ticket D. We all have stories. Be it rape, loss of a wanted child, abusive situations. Even stories from our grandmothers of death.
If we can't control our own destiny, nothing else matters. republicans do not want women in the workforce, in the government, or anywhere else they can't dictate the terms for. We need to crush them to bits, over and over.
This keeps me up nights, so no, I won't be forgetting about it. This is 100% the top of my list and will remain there until these satanic cons are driven from all levers of power and back under the rocks they emerged from or in prison.

(57,621 posts)I direct your attention to this post from DU'er onecaliberal:
All of the main stream media. I heard it on all 5 big networks yesterday.
"The media says we don't care about bodily autonomy" and "Its not the top concern" are not the same thing, are they?
So what are Americans concerned about? In order:
Thu Oct 20, 2022: New Monmouth University poll...
Issue Oct Sept
Inflation 46% 37%
Elections and Voting 38% 37%
Crime 37% 34%
Immigration 34% 30%
Jobs/Unemployment 32% 30%
Abortion 30% 31%
Racial Inequality 25% 27%
Gun Control 25% 27%
Climate Change 23% 24%
Abortion comes in at number 6. Indeed, it is not the top concern. Which is not to say that is not a concern, just not the top concern.
DU is not representative of the electorate as a whole.

(33,400 posts)The "Media" (whatever that is in 2022) is not "saying" that women don't care about bodily autonomy.
They're reporting on polls that survey a random sample of American Idiots. If it were separated by Party preference, then you'd see Reproductive Rights much higher on the list.
I can't stand hyperbolic OPs like this.
