The problems our country is confronting will not be resolved by either the Democratic or the Republican Party.
This is a battle between America and the Fascists that aim to take over the soul of America.
We can only resolve this problem as Americans. We cannot resolve it as Democrats or Republicans, as much as we would like, or as much as we believe. We cannot desert our Constitution.
In my opinion, we must form the largest coalition possible of all political Parties, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, if we are to defeat this scourge of lies and deceptions.
I do not believe we are beyond the point where we can save our democracy. But I do believe it is up to the American people as a whole if we are to survive this crisis.
The political Parties are not our salvation.

A new friend of mine at the Y pool said something as we found we think alike. Why cant we all just be people? I agree with her whole heartedly. We have to begin with ourselves and make sure we have the right attitude.
We disagree on some things, discuss them, but the basic theme is there. We rally like each other, discuss what we can do to make us better.
I want law breakers punished but am not going to waste my time hating I am going to live, enjoy.

(11,316 posts)that doesn't have a D behind their name - at this juncture in our political history - is a misguided (and one must add dangerous) fabulist. If this fact wasn't thoroughly known and understood previously - it most certainly should have illustrated (and writ large) - by the events of the recent past.
I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't engage with your neighbors ... Community building, engagement, and yada, yada ... And you might even find a handful of so called 'moderate' Rs in their ranks (although if these 'mods' have any, even slightest, sympathies toward 45 - or lingering election doubts - you can immediately discard the notion that they are in fact moderate, or rational)
But, when entering the voting booth be absolutely assured - that any R (or non-D) vote - means just exactly as much 'cooperation' and reaching across the aisle, as you have seen from McCarthy, McConnell, two impeachments, and the Republican party over the past decade. If in fact there is such a thing as a moderate in the opposition party - they have absolutely no voice or control in what is going on within their ranks. And at this point it is dangerous (as well as fancifully) to imagine otherwise.
Why would you need it spelled out any more clearly?

(9,670 posts)When it comes to democracy, there is no "them". It's just us. The Democrats and a loose consortium of anti-fascists derived from disgruntled Republicans, conservatives and independents.
We're not fighting on a level playing field. The rules have been vacated by those who wish to render the peoples' voices moot. The only power we have is the power of numbers. There are more of us than them. We either overwhelm them with our magnitude, or remain divided and ultimately lose the battle.
If I'd read something like this 20 years ago, I would have dismissed it as hyperbole. But the endgame is upon us and we either stand united or lose it all. It's that simple.
