General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat direction does Republican Party go if they win the House and Senate?
Do they lurch forward in the direction they have been going for years?
Or do they draw back from the edge of the abyss and work toward a more moderate politics?
Will the impeachment of Joe Biden be at the top of their agenda?
Will they withdraw support from the Ukrainians in their war against Russia?
Will they continue their plans to make abortion illegal across the entire nation?
Will they continue their anti-freedom, anti-liberty crusade against the American people?
Hopefully, the people will not vote to put them in charge of the House and Senate. But, at this time in our history, we have no assurances.
Hopefully, they will denounce the criminal acts of Donald Trump and some in their own Party, and attempt to put their Party on a different track. However, we should not hold our breath for this to happen. It is not likely for them to relinquish the power once they capture it.
If they are given the responsibility to govern, perhaps some will be driven by conscience to do what is best for the country?
The time is drawing nigh.

(111,098 posts)But I continue to hope that once the threat of not being re-elected is past them, a few may actually try a different direction.
I suppose I will be disabused of that thin strand of hope in two or three weeks?

(768 posts)The goal is within sight, the blood is in the water. This is their chance to establish power forever, and they are going to take it.
Will the impeachment of Joe Biden be at the top of their agenda?
Yes. Of course they will move to impeach Biden. They have to exact their vengeance.
Will they withdraw support from the Ukrainians in their war against Russia?
Maybe. I give this a 50/50.
Will they continue their plans to make abortion illegal across the entire nation?
Absolutely yes.
Will they continue their anti-freedom, anti-liberty crusade against the American people?
Always, why would they stop now?
If they are given the responsibility to govern, perhaps some will be driven by conscience to do what is best for the country?
They have no conscience or morality at this point. We should be fully prepared to be living in an authoritarian one-party state.

(23,105 posts)Effectively ending social security, medicare and medicaid is the top of their agenda - so destroy working class is their #1 goal. Then destroying our ability to vote and to be educated are next along with the ending of OSHA and any workplace regulations. They will destroy our way of life.

(768 posts)Americans overall are too stupid, naive and apathetic to govern themselves. Most people spend their days playing with electronic toys and binge watching mindless brain numbing garbage programming.
They won't figure out what they have traded away until they are under the boot, and everything we fought and died for in the many wars to preserve our freedom is lost.

(21,351 posts)create chaos, blame President Biden.
The first person they impeach will not be Presidnet Biden, it will be Merrick Garland.
They will install young Magat judges at rapid speed.
They will dismantle Social Security and Medicare, abolish the filibuster.
If they keep power in 2024 and win the presidency, they will begin locking up people on the left
McCarthy said what he would do, the exact same thing that the UK did, tax cuts for the rich and deregulation, trickle down economics.

(2,399 posts)Since the Republicans believe that less government is better than more government, that they don't believe in governance, will the country slide into some kind of regional chaos, with extremists filling power vacuums all over the country?

6. That's a definite maybe. They may sense the need to be careful not to cut off their own oxygen with this. Doing this would be the equivalent of a declaration that they will never peacefully cede power in the USA ever again.

There is absolutely no upside to them taking back congress. Not one.
