Amanda Zurawski was losing her baby. Nothing would change that.
Still, she had to wait three days to become sick enough, under Texas law, for doctors to intervene.
At that point, under anti-abortion laws championed by Texas politicians who call themselves pro-life, Zurawski faced the risk of dying.
Having to sit with that knowledge that you're going to lose the baby that you had worked so hard for is difficult enough, said Zurawski, who went public this week with the ordeal she and her husband experienced in August. And then being told, Oh, we can't do anything to help you until you're incredibly sick, I mean, it's barbaric.

self-righteous revenge takes precedence. That poster knows zilch about the woman who was told to just go ahead and die.

(6,831 posts)there's some point to the question in that the fact remains. To stop the madness those who voted for it will need to change in order to stop it.

(31,828 posts)I've been in that woman's shoes - and my husband was able to advocate for me.
We knocked on doors out of state Philly Exurb) on Sunday afternoon. He's a new American and voting in his first USA election. When he speaks right to body autonomy, and right to privacy - he goes directly in on decisions he had to make for me not once - but twice.
We are very close - and we are of one mind in this situation . . . I hope people vote science this election - because voting 'isms' last few elections - made America Suck.

What interests me is if this will affect a wider circle of their family and friends, especially those in Texas. I would hope no one related to her or her husband would vote for a Republican, at least this election.
as life has seemed to show us the last few years, only immediate family and friends will be moved by this. Everyone else will stick their heads in the sand.
It's really frustrating. People are so tribalistic that they'll just run with something that could potentially hurt themselves or a loved one immensely. They only care when it affects themselves.
(It's true of gun violence. And it'll be true with women's health care.)

(111,267 posts)Letting someone go septic when it could have been prevented isn't medicine, it's attempted murder.
She got treatment within the window of opportunity, but even when that happens, sepsis is 50% fatal. And they did that to her in full knowledge of the high odds that she would die.
Livestock get better treatment than she did. Livestock are important. Women aren't.

The article says that the couple is voting Dem all the way and gave permission to use their info and confirm it with their medical providers because they don't want it to happen to others and want others to know before they vote.
The wife has had to have further surgery to remove scar tissue and there's no guarantee they'll ever be able to conceive. They were already going through in vitro fertilization.

(81,292 posts)Regardless of whether she did or didn't last time, is she planning to vote THIS time?
That's all I care about, at this point. Didn't canvass this weekend. Was WAY busy at a BIG affair here yesterday that I worked, as a volunteer. Special guest speaker: Elizabeth Warren.
And our local "stars" and hopefuls: Senator Jeff Merkley, Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Congressional hopeful Andrea Salinas (for Oregon's new 6th Congressional district), the local Democratic Party chair, and other local dignitaries. Picked up two "VOTE" masks for husband and myself, and enjoyed the general stuff, the people, the conversation, the "celeb-spotting".
HAH! I just realized something about "celeb-spotting": I STILL do this! Always did. When I was a kid and we moved to L.A., we lived in an area where there were lots of celebrities to be seen and noticed in the grocery store or local restaurant, I went to school with some of their kids, saw them in church, and it just was something I was good at. I grew up to cover L.A. and Hollywood for various media outlets, and most of what I covered was celeb-related, and I ending up specifically as the Hollywood correspondent for A.P. Broadcast, thereby continuing to do "celeb-spotting" til I retired. Just couldn't get away with it and couldn't help jumping in with both feet. By contrast, these "celebs" up here are mainly local or state politicians. Nobody's retired up here that I'm aware of, as far as Hollywood types, but many of them do seem to want to retreat northward when they're not working or need time to themselves.
Btw: I think I once mentioned that the BIG story I covered for the AP while their Hollywood reporter was the Zsa Zsa Gabor cop-slapping trial, and Holy Cannoli was THAT a crazy scene! I fed lots of recorded reports and tape in, every day. Even went live a few times from the field. A little bit later on, I had to go to the AP headquarters in Washington for a few days, and worked my usual shift from there. There'd be the usual friendly chatter and shop talk as well as focused news discussion, all mild-mannered Clark Kent types and news geeks, not an ego in the place. At one point, sure enough, the chit-chat got around to the Zsa Zsa trial, cuz it really had been big news. But big? How 'bout BIG!!! ? One of the guys said it got to be annoying when stations would call in for refeeds of reports or actualities they'd missed earlier in the day. Over and over they called in asking for Zsa Zsa stuff. Either they'd missed the earlier feed or they simply wanted more. The gang in DC couldn't get over it. I thought it was hilarious! The whole story was hilarious! The whole point was hilarious! The "leading lady" was hilarious! One of the craziest, most surreal, most ridiculous, and most ridiculously funny stories I ever covered!
