Why you should not vote for ANY Republican---in a "nut"shell:

Simply put, they are bad people. True, some are not as bad as others, but none of them are good people when judged by standards that have been generally accepted by the majority since we were still colonies.

They lie; not just now and then, but constantly, consistently and without shame. To a Republican, only weak suckers tell the truth when a lie will better serve their purpose.

They are arrogant cowards which is why they are racist homophobic misogynistic religious bigots. They profess to be better than anyone who is "different".

They are cruel and uncaring. They are not just willing to hurt others; they are eager to do so if it will benefit them and if it can be done without risk.

They distrust not just science, but the entire concept of "facts". They know that facts can be proven and they are uncomfortable with the possibility of being "wrong". They much prefer loudly stated half-baked opinions because they are not subject to anyone else's rules or common sense.

Vote for "good people". It really is that simple.

I get weary of people claiming they know "good" conservatives - good people DO NOT support what the GOP stands for

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pete Wilson. I wrote in Mickey, Minnie, and Donald for my city council race because there was not even one Democrat running.
They need to be shunned from polite society. If they had their way we’d all be dead.

Their voting base is too old and infirm to handle all the work from day to day. They would have to keep some of us or drastically change their immigration stance.

If the only candidate is a Repuke, I skip that one.

It's a foregone conclusion that they're going to win anyway. Meanwhile, write-in votes are pointless and just create extra paper work for the poll workers when it's time to close the polls for the night.

Some of us live in very Red areas where only Republicans or NPAs run for county/city offices.

Of course, we vote for Democrats on the state and federal level, but when there are none running locally, what are our options?

As for me (and the Democratic party apparatus here), I vote in those races for the sanest choice. Example, in 2020, we had 2 R women running in the primary for 2 different county commission seats. Their competitors were the craziest of the crazy RWNJs.

We hosted the women candidates at a Democratic Women's Club meeting and asked them hard questions. We watched their campaigns/ads/forums and, in the end, most of us voted for those women.

They won. They are now sensible people on the county commission. Along with the one sane R man on the 5 person commission, we have a majority of sane, logical, but conservative commissioners.

Here's the interesting result: the 2 crazy whackadoodle R men on the commission are retiring. One has already been replaced by a sane R woman, the other will be replaced by a RWNJ woman - who will be totally outnumbered, 4-1. We'll also have a county commission that is 4 women, 1 man.

Do I agree with everything they espouse? Hell, no. Are they the best choices for my county? Hell, yes.

P.S. Up until this county commission the only Republican I ever voted for was our long-serving Supervisor of Elections. I knew her personally and she was truly an excellent SOE. Back in 1999, she strongly pushed the commission to update our voting systems from punch cards to scanners. As a result, we were one of the few counties in the 2000 debacle who had a fully clean election (remember hanging chads?).

She also was dedicated to registering HS seniors to vote. In fact, my youngest, when he was in HS, declared he wouldn't vote, didn't matter, blah, blah. Nothing I said changed his stance. She came to his school, did a presentation and - he registered to vote!

She retired in 2020. Her predecessor was trained by her. A bit more Republican than I'd like, but also committed to election integrity and encouraging voting.

... by contributing to majorities that put the levers of power into the hands of the radical right-wingers. If the right-wing is to be knocked off its un-earned pedestal (the GOP is WAY over-represented in terms of popular support), then their numbers in office must be reduced EVERYwhere, up and down the ballot, local-state-federal. If good Republicans have to lose their seats, so that the GOP loses majority status, so that the extremists among them can't exercise power, then so be it, from school boards to Congress.

their cruelty soothes them. They don't want to believe that poverty is something that can happen to anyone because if that was true, it could happen to them, which they don't want to believe. So they stick to the belief that the universal cause of poverty is laziness, even if they themselves happen to be lazy goldbrickers who are fortunate enough to have found a stable position in the work world. It might not be right, but I fantasize about people who disparage the poor falling on hard times just as I fantasize about "pro-life" zealots being confronted on a personal level with the issue of when carrying a pregnancy to term is not sensible or acceptable. But that's just me.

21. I had a bumper sticker made.

It says:

The difference between the parties, in a nutshell:
DEMOCRATS think poor people have too little and rich people have too much.
REPUBLICANS think poor people have too much and rich people have too little.

Your comments cover a lot more bases than mine, but your comments are much longer than "in a nutshell".

I had ten of those bumper stickers made, but I haven't put one on my car yet because I want to bullet-proof the car first.

I also had another one made that says:

Republicans
CHEAT

And then in small type under those two words, I list a lot of the ways in which Republicans cheat. Gerrymandering, voter suppression, ignoring the will of the voters, many more.

I haven't put that bumper sticker on my car yet either, for the same reason. I live in Missouri; lots of right-win gun nuts around here.

I had another one made that says:

MAKE AMERICA
SANE AGAIN

I have put that one on my car. It's been there for a couple of years now.
