Clarence Thomas Puts The Brakes On Lindsey Graham's Testimony In Georgia
The GOP acts as one big criminal organization.
By John Amato October 24, 2022
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas temporarily blocked the subpoena from Georgia demanding Sen. Lindsey Graham testify to a grand jury investigating Trump's malfeasance after he lost the state to Joe Biden in the 2020 general election.
Thomas thumbed his nose at a panel of judges on the 11th circuit who unanimously rejected Graham's request to block his testimony.
Georgia is investigating Trump's heinous actions trying to get election officials to somehow find more votes and name him the winner of the peach state.

We really need to
1) impeach
2) or expand the courts

(4,734 posts)'power' the Chief Justice has is, when in the majority, getting to assign the drafting of the majority opinion to whom he/she wants. When in the minority the most senior justice in the majority get to assign the drafting.
The Chief Justice is not like a boss/ceo/party leader/president.

(67,112 posts)filibuster and let the chips fall where they might. Many worry, oh, what will the GOP then do if they get in power again ... my reasoning is that by not doing this democratic initiatives the masses would like do not get accomplished, thereby possibly helping the GOP win when they say dems could not get anything done.

(4,734 posts)anti-democratic as the arguments I keep reading here keep stating, why would it matter who had the House? A better question would be if the Republicans win the House and the Senate should we still push to eliminate the filibuster? If not are we not just playing politics with the issue and not standing on principle ?

(5,812 posts)But I do like the idea of expanding the court. Nine justices was set at a time when there were only 9 federal circuits. Time to expand, IMO, to have the same number of justices as we have circuits.

52.
And while they are at it. No more life time appointments with a rotating roster from appeals courts.

I agree with representation for DC and Puerto Rico and, further, no life time appointment.
Not sure about a rotating roster...have to think about that.

(9,998 posts)It just causes frustration to suggest ideas that have ZERO chance of success.
It takes 2/3rds of the Senate to remove a Justice. Let me know when that's possible.
It takes 60 Votes in the Senate to avoid a Filibuster and expand the Court. Let me know when that's possible.
Then we can talk.
