(14,974 posts)One of the main problems with social media is exactly that, and people are like "oh, sign me up for more!"

(24,738 posts)Have you looked at countersocial?
I dont think the Rivero bros/ TribelSocial (also Occupy Dems) are on the "wrong" side but there's some sloppy record keeping at least and a little grifting at worst?
A couple other threads on them here.

(6,544 posts)They have been around for several years, with a proven track record of leeping the trolls and bots (and information stealing) at bay. It's also far better in terms of traffic, getting actual information, and IMO, interaction. I tried Tribel and despite several attempts have gotten nowhere. I had far more traction on Coso in my first hour, than I had on Tribel for a couple of weeks.
Additionally, while Tribel is being hyped it's owners, but is really quite primitive in comparison to the alternatives, feeling much more like an early Facebook prototype than a competitor of Twitter or any other social networking site.
Not recommended.

(94,607 posts)...not reacting to fear and an emotional appeal. TWITTER is useful because it gathers together a broad collection of participants, including people who add value to social media, whether they agree with you or not. These "i hate Elon Musk/Donald Trump" appeals to join a "safe" social media bubble have no value at all.

(6,544 posts)I have no plan to leave Twitter, as we need to stand our ground. But there are those who are looking for a refuge, even if they stay in the fight, where they can hang out and chat with others in peace. I see no reason to leave one for another, all these platforms serve different purposes. I hang out with actual friends on Facebook, and don't see much, if any of the problems others seem to experience. I hang out here, as another refuge from some of the crazier places, and to talk politics. I hang out on Twitter to get news, up to the minute commentary from all around the world, and to bonk vatniks. That includes American vatniks, of which there are many, and leaving Twitter would surrender that space to them. Ain't gonna happen.
