Something that many would be willing to disrupt their lives to retain. Neither side is in a position to do that Therefore no civil war.

But given your assumption that would be isolated domestic terrorism -- not civil war.

He will claim he’s totally innocent and he’s being prosecuted purely so Dems can illegally grab power. He will repeat and repeat until the majority of republicans believe him.

What then when a large percentage of the country believe this?

There's a point where the "isolated" is no longer isolated. Once it's cohesive you can call them terrorists all you want but we're at war at that point it won't matter til the trials.

It's really simple.

To have a civil war you simply need to have enough people willing to kill over something. It doesn't matter one bit if that something is imaginary and pure bullshit.

What did the North take from the South?

Nothing.

I think Mr. Lincoln disagrees with you. The southern states wanted to remove themselves from the Union. Lincoln sent his army to stop that.

Sent the army into the South doubt to keep the States from succeeding.

History as I have read it says South Carolina succeeded from the Union in December of 1860, followed by other state over a period of months. There was no conflict until Fort Sumter in April of 1861 and that was initiated by the Confederacy. Even after that provocation the Union did not send major forces against the South until July.

Given the timeline and slow response to succession it seems disingenuous to say the North attacked the South. In modern terms it would be more apt to say Lincoln was attempting sanctions and negotiations to retain the Union until he was left with no option but the use of force.

We did not have a standing army. We needed to raise the men, train them, supply them and provide the logistics to supply them as they moved. That takes time in 2022 let alone 1861.

IOW, the slavers started it. Lincoln said 'preserve the Union' only until he was sure the North would be okay with the causus belli being the abolition of slavery. The South was fighting for slavery the whole time.

I can't believe some people still believe the tired old tale of The Lost Cause, and the beautiful antebellum South, and happy slaves singing in the fields, etc, etc, etc.

Abraham Lincoln’s chief goal in the American Civil War was to preserve the Union. At the outset of the war, he would have done so at any cost, including by allowing slavery to continue.

https://www.britannica.com/question/What-were-Abraham-Lincolns-chief-goals-in-the-American-Civil-War

There is not a slightest bit of evidence in his writings or statements that he really wanted to end slavery but just was waiting "until he was sure the North would be okay" with the slavery issue. Lincoln was not afraid of writing his thoughts down. Where are they? Yes after the war had been effectively won and it was just a matter of time he shifted to slavery.

Even in the Emancipation Proclamation he refused to free slaves in areas under northern control. They were only freed where the south still had military control.

I gave my source. Any basic internet search will give you the same result. The southern Confederacy opened fire at fort Sumter, a military based owned and run by the United States government.

I'm not into debating people that don't post their sources and make grand statements that go completely against commonly known history.

Sectarian terror attacks, loosely targeted, with casualties from all sides in most every attack. It will be violent, chaotic, and unfocused, and it will accomplish very little, if anything at all, other than to Balkanize our society.

We could, in the end, find ourselves wishing we had fought a Civil Ward, a conflict with a potential for ending. The Troubles Between the States, however, could drag on for decades, with no resolution in sight.

What we're discussing here isn't a "Civil War".

It's Right-Wing Terrorism via Paramilitary Death Squads. They have the grievances, they have the fear and loathing, they have the guns, they turn to violence when shit doesn't fall in their laps.

Antifa doesn't have buses, and they don't want to invade and conquer Bumfuck.
