CNN
More than two dozen liberal House members are calling on President Joe Biden to shift course in his Ukraine strategy and pursue direct diplomacy with Russia to bring the months-long conflict to an end.
In a letter sent to Biden on Monday, the group of 30 Democrats praise Bidens efforts to date at supporting Ukraine while avoiding direct US involvement on the ground. But they suggest a more forceful attempt at bringing the war to an end through diplomacy is necessary to prevent a long and slogging conflict.

Elon Musk says SpaceX won't turn off Starlink satellite regardless of Defense Department funding
Given the destruction created by this war for Ukraine and the world, as well as the risk of catastrophic escalation, we also believe it is in the interests of Ukraine, the United States, and the world to avoid a prolonged conflict, the group, led by Congressional Progressive Caucus chairwoman Pramila Jayapal, write in the letter. For this reason, we urge you to pair the military and economic support the United States has provided to Ukraine with a proactive diplomatic push, redoubling efforts to seek a realistic framework for a ceasefire.
The letter comes at a critical moment in the war, as Russia increasingly targets civilian infrastructure with a particular focus on cutting power supplies to Ukrainian citizens ahead of winter.

We have seen what Russia has done to Ukraine.
YOU CAN'T NEGOTIATE OR ENGAGE IN "DIPLOMACY" WITH A MUDEROUS SCUMBAG.
This only helps Russia.
What the fuck were they thinking??!!!

(26,587 posts)After all the atrocities uncovered in Bucha and the other areas occupied by russia at the start of the war. After hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians had been forcibly deported to russia.
After all the documented rapes, tortures, and murders of civilians.
Sorry if I'm not impressed.

This country has a moral responsibility to help Ukraine, and the coalition doesnt stay together without us.

(54,414 posts)Whats next, inviting Tommy Tuberville to join the Black Caucus?
Some issues just have to be addressed as they are, not how we wish they were. Tuberville is never going to be Black, and Putin is never going to be reasonable.

(11,320 posts)(no matter what date it was issued) - and I think it illustrates a disappointing naivety. But pushing this as a 'demand that Biden bend a knee' - is also completely hyperbolic, to the point of bordering on dishonest. How about an effort to keep things real?

Hear you. First, this was written in July & I have no idea why it went out now. Bad timing. Second, it was trying to get to a cease-fire & diplomacy as others were banging war drums, not criticizing Biden. Third, Ive supported the efforts & will continue. Over analyzed by some.

(5,557 posts)As long as Ukraine wants to fight, we arm and support them.
When Ukraine wants to come to the negotiating table, we stand behind them as a friend and ally.
It's their country, they get to decide the direction this goes.
We support them, we don't tell them what to do.
