Iowa Poll: Tom Miller leads Brenna Bird by 16 percentage points in attorney general race

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller leads challenger Brenna Bird by 16 percentage points among likely voters, a new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll shows.

Forty-nine percent of likely voters say they would vote for Miller, a Democrat, compared with 33% who choose Bird, a Republican. Another 5% say they would vote for someone else, 7% say they would not vote and 6% are not sure.

Miller is the longest-serving attorney general in the country and is seeking an 11th term this year. He is running on a message that he has used the law to serve ordinary Iowans through consumer protection efforts and lawsuits against opioid manufacturers.

He faces a spirited challenge from Bird, the Guthrie County attorney, who has emphasized her support for law enforcement and accused Miller of a lack of commitment to the job.

1. He is a good AG and she's a nutjob

with truly crude ads.

I don't necessarily believe polling these days, but Tom has been AG for a really long time and not had trouble being reelected.

2. Miller has had tremendous respect across the political spectrum - not an easy

task in Iowa. Bird is trying to take advantage of what she feels is going to be a "red wave" year, but her BS ain't playing too well, even in this Trumpist state.
