"Absurd": Experts say Clarence Thomas "giving the finger to the court" by blocking Graham subpoena

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas temporarily blocked an order requiring Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to testify before an Atlanta-area special grand jury investigating efforts to subvert the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

Thomas, who has jurisdiction over the lower court that issued the original ruling, paused the order for Graham to testify in a brief Supreme Court docket entry.

"Upon consideration of the application of counsel for the applicant, it is ordered that the August 15, 2022 order of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia... is hereby stayed pending further order of Justice Thomas or of the Court," the brief order states.

Glenn Kirschner, a former federal prosecutor, told MSNBC the Supreme Court is continuing to dig itself "deeper and deeper into the hole of illegitimacy."

to be considered illegitimate.

Only the federal govt has the power, the stroke, the oomph, to stop pipelines. To prohibit Teflon. To ban mining and logging in national parks. To ban lead paint. In short, to put limits on ANY activity that some big business may desire.

They want your parks. Your liver. Your lungs. They want anything…ANYTHING…from which a single red cent can be squeezed and slash and burn and destroy…no matter how much beauty and grace is destroyed by gaining that single red cent of profit.

A state govt can be squeezed and cajoled and bribed and threatened SO SO much easier than the federal govt.

Ideology and theocracy just aid in the demolition of federal power, while providing the base with things to be fired up about.

How does an individual justice have the authority over a lower court? I can understand the Supreme Court having authority as an institution, but not an individual within that institution.

Thomas is assigned the 11th Circuit. He issued a temporary administrative stay to allow the full court to act on Graham's request that the 11th circuit's denial of Graham's request for a stay pending his appeal of a district court order requiring him to testify.

In all likelihood, Thomas' decision, with which I strongly disagree on a variety of grounds, won't end up making that much difference. Graham is scheduled to give his deposition until November 17 and chances are that the full SCOTUS will act on the motion for stay before that date.

blocked the review of AZ GOP Chair phone records? She did the EXACT same thing Thomas did.

Kagan temporarily halts release of Arizona GOP chair’s phone records

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan is temporarily blocking the turnover of phone records belonging to the leader of the Arizona Republican Party to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Kagan’s order Wednesday evening paused anything from happening while an emergency appeal by GOP state chair Kelli Ward is under consideration by the high court.

The world is not ending with these temporay stays until the full court has a chance to look at the issues.
