It was a traumatic event in their lives.
They are still angry, but saddened, by the disgraceful, unpatriotic, anti-American, treasonous actions of some of their fellow Americans. The passing time has done nothing to ameliorate their disgust.
There is a good chance that Republicans will win the upcoming election and control of the Congress. They will do their best to cover it up and make people forget it ever happened. But it will not work.
The American people desire justice.
They cannot forget what happened.

(58,785 posts)to move its remaining money around strategically; there isn't enough. Here, from Punchbowl News, is part of the reason. The stakes for our nation, and the planet, are enormous.
Here are some examples: $33.6 million has been shelled out in Pappas race; $31.4 million in Rep. Susie Lees (D-Nev.) race; $30.6 million in Goldens race; $28.7 million in Rep. Elissa Slotkins (D-Mich.) race; and $23.9 million in Angie Craigs (D-Minn.) race.
Thats close to $150 million in just five districts, with several weeks to go. So yes, gerrymandering has left fewer truly competitive districts. And in those swing districts, the amount of money being spent can be staggering.
Agree with the OP, but at the moment how I feel about my neighbors is not the most compelling issue. This is a time to act positively -- get out the vote and get out the money. We had a friend visiting yesterday, but back to the phones today.

game over. The only avenue that will be left is massive protests. But again to what end?
I know this sounds like giving up but Ive neither seen or heard of a roadmap back to democracy should fascism win. Ill continue fighting for Democracy as I have all my political life. I will continue to vote Democratic as long as Im allowed.

(21,408 posts)if fascists are in charge of counting the vote.
Just around the corner the fascist Supreme Court is about to rule on whether state legislators have absolute authority to gerrymander districts. Absolute authority means that the governor, the state Supreme Court cannot overrule the legislators.
Will this decision also morph into state legislators having absolute authority in running elections? If so our vote may very well mean nothing.
Several members of the fascist SC have already opined that they are in favor of giving state legislators the authority to run their elections, with zero oversight.
Will the fascists allow sites like DU to exist? People underestimate what the US will look like under fascism. Enemies of fascism will be jailed or worse.
This is why I have so adamant speaking out that time matters in holding the people behind the insurrection accountable.
I go back to DOJ not prosecuting the Cyber Ninjas which led to more fraudits and enflamed the Big Lie.

(111,110 posts)That the Supreme Court will rule that state legislatures can name the winners of elections, rather than the majority of the voters. It is very possible that it may happen.

(2,809 posts)I have to be cautious not to fall prey to my worst impulses.
Having been moved in my pre-teen years to what is now a deep, deep red and deeply redneck area, to get inadvertently outed as LGBT in same: just use your imagination what sort of bullying I endured for 2 years before taking desperate measures to salvage my life, and you've got a pretty good picture of how that went. There wasn't any of those times except for summer break I wasn't covered in bruises. Had there been a child protective services, a local hospital or any refuge there whatsoever I'd have been removed from there.
It was those same bruises that shocked Billy, a latter 70's man who took me in after I ran away, at first as a sexual interest but soon discovered he needed to shelter me just as badly as with his cliffhanger heart condition he needed help as well. Bless his late soul. But I digress. Can't help it, it's therapeutic.
Inside of me is still that balled up anger that potentially so hazardous, if I were inclined to do violence it would be large scale, and directed at those very bullies. Specific ring leaders of them. But I stay far away.
So it is with such heavy heart watching their exact ilk attack our capitol in wanton act of stupidity. I feel those strikes on my body, being crushed so hard I can't breathe in a doorway, goddamnit it brought back the nightmares of being treated like I have no rights, no autonomy, no right to my own life. I have to shut off whatever media plays back those clips.
Some are murderers who got away with it before my time, slap on the wrist and let go to bully others by the "gay panic" defense.
Altough by therapists my own is an extreme case of complex PTSD,
but I'm willing to bet nearly all of us have some extent of that from these violent MAGA idiots.

(111,110 posts)Nancy Pelosi seems to agree with you. She believes that she and the Democrats will keep control of the House.
I would like to see Democrats keep control of the House and re-establish the J6 Committee as soon as the new Congress convenes. However, where would she find any Republicans with both Cheney and Kinzinger gone?
I do not see how the House can keep the investigation continuing, even if Democrats maintain the House?
I would like to see Schumer and McConnell work out a deal to let the Senate continue the investigation and try put the entire episode behind us. Would McConnell ever agree to something like that, with vehement opposition from his caucus?
How important is democracy to Mitch McConnell? He can talk the talk but would he ever walk the walk?
KS Toronado
(17,344 posts)My gut feeling is the J6 Committee is history, with everything they have given Merrick Garland his DOJ
will be taking over. Be a shame if Congress did stop investigating as it gives repugs a lot of bad press
and RW media a tougher time spinning it.

(221 posts)of 'common wisdom says'. The GQP does not, repeat does NOT, have a good chance of winning. If, somehow they defy current odds, we can say goodbye to democracy. But, the chances are slim to none and getting slimmer each day. The media says one thing, the facts on the ground say something else. Blue tsunami. The stronger the emotional attachment to an incident the stronger the memory of it.

(10,212 posts)They might get, slightly in their favor because of SCOTUS approved gerrymandering, win 1 house of our legislative branch. And as millions and millions of more people vote, that slight chance is getting slimmer, almost microscopic.
If it happens which seems slimmer every day, then it will be 50/50 control. Normal people will control the Senate and the executive branch. And the crazies will control the house and the Supremes. That is not them in control. That is them ripe for their own destruction.

(21,408 posts)Demographics changed, the fascists are the minority so they use voter suppression and gerrymandering. I live in Pa. and for the past decade or more, Democrats have outvoted Magats and during that time period Magats have gained seats. No Democrat ran in my district for a state seat.
Do not underestimate the evil Magats, they can attain minority rule. They look at Presidential elections and understand that they can't get the most votes so they are rigging the system.

(10,212 posts)False polls and disseminating doom and gloom are common Russian espionage tools use to prevent reasonable people from voting.
Just doing a negative ad discourages reasonable, kind hearted people from voting. That's why negative ads were getting fewer and fewer until Raygun. Now it's practically the only ads the GOP uses.
When the GOP decided discouraging voting was a winning tactic for them, negative ads increased. Negative push polls increased. Doom and gloom gets the crazies out and discourages most normal voters.
