Why not? He will have served his only purpose by then and Republican leaders have long since sought to wash their hands of him anyway. "...and not a moment too soon", they'll venture and agree with gleaming eyes upon their very straight faces, defining and refining contrivance into the art of artifice. For they know very well, had the question been justice and truth, it was many moments too late, the trap was closed.

(6,852 posts)I kinda see several investigations, nee indictments, blossoming and coming to seed nearly simultaneously and for various causes. On the fisherman's principle that when the fish are biting, the big fish get caught too. All these characters just walked into these crimes. Nobody forced them. It's more like, being mesmerized to abandon any good sense of self preservation, they were seduced into culpability, doing their best to please TFG, their only objective. It will be instructive to see how their stories unfold.
I'm more concerned how some of these cases might unravel as they progress. Though many may want to ignore how the timing of these indictments influence the general public's thinking, they will have little problem accepting justice for the people, even horribly distorted, as it flows into the currents of political ruling classes. So much of the potential harm these people could have done is seen through a lens warped by their successes, worse so if they prevail in the midterms.
I remember how at a block party in December 2008 I overheard a man, feeling licensed to expose his bigotry in a gathering of white men in Duval County Fl, say he was sure Obama would "force actions on the country that serve only the black people". Our host, a navy veteran, a humble man who saw himself as a true patriot, with years of exposure to several foreign assignments, was the only person to vocally object. It was the "tell" at a local level, the Republican's ability to accuse and condemn, without evidence, Democrats of transgressions they would, themselves, perform as a matter of course. With a midterm reversal in the congress, there will be little voice, none of real consequence, to pursue the road of ruin left by 45, gone down all its paths and tunnels. To do so would jeopardize every Republican in power.

They have more than enough to indict today on the document case.
