Started rolling in around 7pm. Hispanic, Black, White you name it. I live in a very cultural diverse neighborhood & area in Cali.
Anyway 'pre covid' I would get like 400 to 500 kids trick-or-treating at my house every year. Yeah I decked the house out back then ... but no matter the neighborhood was also 'lit' back then no lie. Last year I got maybe 40 kids, the year before that (Covid lock-down) I got 1 ... yep 1 kid and his dad.
So tonight I watched a few movies with my nephew earlier in the day, and by 6:30 pm I had 1 kid come by. My neph left, and the doggies and I just hung out.... waiting.
7:00 pm and boom ... a school night ... they started showing up anyway ... I ended up with I'd say 150 kids tonight ... till around 8:30 p.m. And damn I wanted to hug each one of them. My doggies stopped barking at them and actually started licking them through the gate outside it was so cute.
Tonight I learned from the kids ... don't believe what anyone tells you what's coming (polls?). If you have it in your heart and believe it's out there, it probably is.
Lastly I was blessed to grow up in a very cultural diverse family. Hispanic, White, Black .... you name it. "Racial Prejudice" is something foreign to my soul. Jut VOTE and Happy Halloween !!!

(38,325 posts)We live in a similarly diverse neighborhood.
That's one of the reasons we chose this place to raise our own children.
The children I saw tonight make me optimistic about the future. It was a cheerful crowd.

(10,067 posts)I went to my son's to hand out candy while they took the kiddies around. All the neighbourhood puts out tables at the end of the driveways to hand out treats. They decorate, have portable fires both gas and wood burning. They have coffee and treats for adults and the entire neighbourhood is on the streets, with obviously many more who visit the area. It is such a festive atmosphere and they had well over 300 kids in great costumes. So everyone is visiting with everyone, adults and kids alike. The tables started during covid so kids could still go out but not to anyone's doors. They have decided to keep the tradition but now everyone is out. It is usually cold here (Canada) and while it was cool not really cold, it was clear and a beautiful night. Some people have movies in their driveways, on the garage doors, for the older children, bring a chair and watch a movie and drink hot chocolate. I so enjoyed it and wish we had that years ago. What a fun time!
