GOP seizes on voter hesitancy to attack EVs as costly to US

Republicans don’t even hide they are in the pocket of Putin and the oil industry. Even as inflation is being driven by rising oil prices due to the war with Saudi Arabia backing Russia, Republicans want to make the US even more dependent on Russia and oil despite the impacts on the climate.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Heading into next week’s midterm elections, many Republican candidates are seeking to capitalize on voters’ concerns about inflation by vilifying a key component of President Joe Biden’s climate agenda: electric vehicles.

On social media, in political ads and at campaign rallies, Republicans say Democrats’ push for battery-powered transportation will leave Americans broke, stranded on the road and even in the dark. Many of the attack lines are not true — the auto industry itself has largely embraced a shift to EVs, for instance, and some Republican lawmakers are quick to cheer the opening of EV battery plants in the U.S. that promise new jobs.

But political analysts say the GOP messaging exploits voter hesitancy on EVs that may have put Democrats on the defensive at a time when Americans are especially feeling a financial pinch. EVs cost $65,000 on average, a fact GOP candidates cite.

More than two-thirds of Americans say they are unlikely to purchase an electric vehicle in the next three years, according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Democrats are twice as likely to say they plan to purchase one as Republicans, 37% to 16%, respectively.

Are they more or less likely to buy and EV compared to a traditional car in the next three years - provided they can find one on the car lot.

…that they will seek in office. For example, Trump pushed for Saudi Arabia to reduce oil problems while also seeking to roll back fuel efficiency standards during his term of office. Thee steps served to make the US more vulnerable to oil price manipulation by Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Just keep in mind that Republicans are working against the interests of US citizens in return for support from the oil industry and Russia/Saudi help in the form of cutting oil supplies shortly before the election.

When people cite the average, it out to be known that some pretty pricey vehicles, well over a 100k, are included.

I looked at a Tesla 3, but it was pricier, and I just do not like the huge touchscreen in Tesla’s. I personally like having a dashboard and instruments that I can touch and adjust while keeping my eyes on the road.

So, while the Bolt does not have as much gimmicks, it is not as much of a leap in driving experience from a gas car. Plus, it has great range and is not too expensive with a price similar to that of a Camry or Accord.

They love them. One friend is a pediatric nurse who does home care for medically fragile children and she puts 100-150 miles a day on hers with zero problems and a lot less fuel cost.
