So, why can't we return the favors?

Why can’t we do the things GOBers do?

Why can’t we cheat like the GOBers do?

Why can’t we believe the fake stories and lies like the GOBers do?

Why can’t we see the GOBers are saying the right things?

Oh so many more of “why can’t we’s”! The reasons are simple and obvious! We aren’t them! We know how to treat people! We know what the truth is! We know the only thing they want is power at any cost, period!

The one thing we can’t do is allow them to win! VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!

I’ve said it a million times, if we have to lie, cheat and steal to get universal healthcare, fair wages and taxation, environmental protections, equal rights and so on, so what?

What they do works. They win. Not every time but enough that they own the courts and the statehouses. We wouldn’t be facing down a for real fascist takeover if we fought the way they do. No holds barred, win at any cost. They’re about to end the goddamn country and we’re worried about what’s seemly. That’s always been our problem. It doesn’t matter if your policies are better if you are not in power.

It’s probably a moot point now, there’s no putting the toothpaste back in the tube. They played the long game masterfully and, sooner or later, they’ll have a complete victory.

This life is it. There’s nothing more. There’s no soul to lose. Better to win for the betterment of all by any means necessary than to lose everything because you won’t fight on equal ground.

This country will be unrecognizable by the next decade. Hell, it’s unrecognizable now. It’s going to be ten times worse when imbecile fascists like Margie three toes, Ted Cruz and Ron DeSantis wield unchecked power.

“At least we played fair” is no consolation when you’re executed for “treason”.

That I can have some control over. As for the rest that I cannot change or influence in any meaningful way, I don't really worry about it. I hope for the best.

The thought that we should ape MAGA-like behaviors makes me nauseous, to be quite frank.

I'm ready to fight like hell to save the republic (and the party) from populist extremists.

6. The number one reason in my book...

We live in a society that is and has to some extent, been governed by laws and traditions which we all agree to follow. There have always been and always will be those who do not follow those laws and norms. The thing is, if we are fighting to protect those things, we absolutely cannot break them in the same ways as those who do not care about them.

There is the saying about "destroy the village to save the village". Obviously if you destroy the village, you have not saved anything. If we cheat, steal, and break the social contract in order to "protect the society" then we have destroyed the village to save the village.

Right now, Trump and his ilk, have badly damaged our institutions, and they continue to do so because to them, they do not care about living in the society that has been in place for the last couple hundred years. They want power and a society that fits their ideal (White Supremacy). We cannot fight fire with fire. We can fight hard, and disregard the false ideas of "civility" which keep Liberals from telling the truth about what Conservatism and the Republican party have become. That we can do. We cannot however, act like Republicans if we plan to maintain the structure of society that we have been working to build.

VOTE, but also become more civically aware and participate in community building in other ways.

"Destroying the village to save the village" is an insane path.

As liberals we are not prevented from telling the truth, but--rather--it is our duty to do so.

9. I'm tired of those why-can't-we-be-like-Republicans rants.
Tue Nov 1, 2022, 03:14 PM

Why can't we? Because the second Democrats do anything the least bit questionable, it becomes a big scandal and the BOTH SIDES screeching ramps up. Why make BOTH SIDES come true? Why become more like the enemy they want and now have to make up?

I'm tired of seeing endless complaining about Democrats not doing what they ARE doing. Democrats ARE talking about what Republicans are doing, calling them fascists and dangerous; they ARE running ads with clips of Republicans threatening to get rid of SS and Medicare and saying racist and violent things; they AREN'T ignoring the economy, health care, jobs, SS and Medicare in favor of only running ads on abortion.

"Why can't we" is at least newer than the "Why don't Democrats stop Republicans?" irritant.

12. How we choose to fight is just as important as what we fight for.

I chose that as my signature line because I strongly believe it. If we become like them, they win even if they lose. They succeeded in dragging us down to their level and forcing us to behave as they do, and once we do that, there goes any claim to the high ground. The ends do not justify the means. Morals and ethics either matter or they don't. There's no having it both ways.

That's how they think and I have no interest in going down that path.

Earlier today there was a very thinly veiled suggestion to tap into Islamophobia in PA. It was getting more than a little support before it was, thankfully, hidden.

Why would we use Islamophobia? Because Republicans would was the justification.
