I will be hard pressed not to puke.
His ruling to stay a lower court's finding, thus denying a Congressional committee access to records to which they are legally entitled, is nothing more than a wink and a nod to the delaying tactics which Trump has employed in virtually every litigation in which he has ever been involved.
"Temporary" my ass! If the Republicans succeed in taking control in the House, Roberts knows damned well that the committee will NEVER get to see the tax returns (which Trump promised to release years ago, because the Republican majority will shit-can the entire investigation. At that point, when it no longer matters, Roberts might drop the stay in a transparently phony attempt to appear non-partisan. Likewise, if the Dems hold the house, I can guaran-fucking-tee that the stay will remain in place for at least two more years.
Fuck this phony apple-cheeked pretend jurist, and the illegitimate kangaroo court he presides over!

(28,837 posts)Let's talk about that phrase for the moment, hero or goat.
What does it mean? Where did it come from? And finally, what does it mean when you change the last word from goat to GOAT?
The phrase was popularized by the late Charles Shultz in his Peanuts comicstrip. Charlie Brown was the captain of his baseball team, and he was either the hero or the goat based on that last critical play of the game: Did he catch the ball (hero) or drop it (the scapegoat)?

(28,837 posts)Roberts is a Bush appointee. Like Nichole Wallace and Steve Schmidt, I hoped he might have some semblance of humanity and justice. But not so much.

I'll save any reaction until the whole court decides whether to hear the case, of ignore it like the last 3 related cases.

(42,748 posts)the Committee suggested that the appeals court could delay that order becoming effective for ten days so that Trump would have an opportunity to ask the Supreme Court to intervene.
In essence, the temporary stay that Roberts granted in analogous to the delay that the Committee itself seemed okay with.
Admittedly, the stay issued by Roberts may run more than 10 days since the Committee's response isn't due until Nov. 10, but the Committee could, and frankly should, submit its response well in advance of Nov. 10 -- in fact, there's no reason that they shouldn't be able to file it tomorrow given that Trump's arguments are the same ones that the Committee has previously addressed before the Court of Appeals.

(19,204 posts)the Supreme Court of the United States of America is a fucking joke, and republicans (like everything else they touch) have so ruined a once respected institution, it may never again function in the manner it was intended.
Republicans have been working for decades to destroy the American judicial system. Congratulations, you pig fuckers, you've succeeded.
