Associated PressIn order to make our country successful, safe and glorious again, I will probably have to do it again, he said last month.
That carefully placed probably may soon be gone from Trumps stump speech. Aides to the former president are making quiet preparations for a 2024 presidential campaign that could be launched soon after next weeks midterm elections as Trump tries to capitalize on expected Republican wins to propel himself toward becoming the front-runner for his partys nomination.
Im like 95% hes going to run, said Reince Priebus, Trumps former White House chief of staff. The real question, he added, is are other big challengers going to run? If President Trump runs, he will be very difficult for any Republican to defeat.

(7,286 posts)Matter of fact, early on in Biden's term of office, it was clear to me the slobbering, psychotic Pig, otherwise known as "the former guy" , has been "campaigning for his big return, albeit unofficially.
Even if he files tomorrow, or the day after election day next week, it would be assumed he could still be indicted (charged/prosecuted/sentenced and incarcerated).
No, this guy is special. he gets special treatment legally and he has his SCOTUS in his pocket.
Everything we depended on legally and other institutional norms has been incinerated with regards to all legal and ethical conduct.

That will really put a bug in DeSantis' drawers.

(17,636 posts)It is my personal observation of the facts that lead me to believe that the DOJ is in a delaying game. A known criminal, perhaps the most notorious criminal of the history of our nation, is living free and continuing to recruit insurrectionists while the AG plays pattycake. Justice delayed is justice denied for the victims.
For a moment, forget every other crime that Trump has committed and just consider the stolen documents: If any other citizen had stolen, hidden, shown to others, and lied about possessing top secret documents they would have been under indictment, and probably awaiting trial, in jail, as a security risk, months ago.
The DOJ is treating Trump like some sort of "super citizen." It is clearly a failure of justice already, regardless of their actions going forward. If they indict Trump directly after the election, then they have already used the delay to affect the outcome of the election in the favor of the Fascist party that calls itself "Republicans." DOJ has already failed to due their duty and serve the interest of the country.

(49,036 posts)I think there is a better than 2:1 chance he will be indicted within two weeks from now, on the government papers / espionage case.
As to your post up the subthread, I disagree with your premise since I am confident that the DoJ will charge tRump whether or not he has declared a candidacy. Whether 14 days or 30 or 60 or 120, they will charge him regardless.
With the moves like hiring the specialist prosecutor and the analysis of outside experts that there is enough to charge with, I'm confident he will be charged.

(5,693 posts)Of course they'll try, but it won't be quite as effective if they have their dotard running against President Biden - a man of similar age, but with all of his faculties still pretty much intact.

(1,789 posts)If this is campaign number 3, and the maximum number of terms is 2, then in order to run he has to acknowledge that he lost in 2020. He should be asked about this at every opportunity, be it a press conference or through those phones they have at the visitor's room in prison.
