Fact check: Paul Pelosi and alleged attacker were both clothed when police arrived

David DePape, accused of attacking Paul Pelosi on Oct. 28, has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and burglary, among other counts.

Following the attack, social media users have shared a variety of false claims regarding the incident. One of these claims is that Pelosi and DePape were in their underwear when police arrived at the scene.

"Paul Pelosi & his attacker were half naked when the police showed up," says an Oct. 28 Instagram post. "They were both in their underwear."

The post garnered more than 60,000 likes in the first four days. Similar iterations have been shared on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Republicans are actively choosing the path of karmic-de-evolution.
One doesn't achieve a state of brutish, mean, nasty derangement syndrome without practiced habits of self-hate projected upon the world of 'other'.

As individuals, they do not rise to the plane of plain humanity.

Greg Sargent
@ThePlumLineGS
People are missing a key point about the right's lies about the Paul Pelosi attack. Shaming and fact-checking have no chance of working, because the whole point is that the lying and the deranged cruelty are a naked assertion of power in their own right.

Greg Sargent
@ThePlumLineGS
The whole point of the lying is to assert the power to manufacture an alternate story *in the face of* easily demonstrable facts and outrage — and to assert that power unabashedly and defiantly.

Fact checking this is like shooting spitballs at a balloon.

“The ability to assert a false reality in the face of empirical evidence is itself an act of power."

Will the Social Media barons ever do something about the bald-faced lies that are eroding our democracy and tearing our society asunder?

Do I like it? No.

But I'm sick & tired of Republicans changing the rules of the game, & playing a new game while we play an old game by the old rules.

Everyone here should remember what Karl Rove said about that so many years ago. Karl gave us their strategy in a nutshell, it was a bright flashing red light, & every Democrat should remember it or have learned it.

His words, talking about the GOP:
"We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out."

Our folly, our downfall, will come if we allow ourselves to be consumed by studying the GOP's last "reality," & we fail to recognize the new "reality" they're creating right in front of our eyes.
