A week after Pennsylvania’s Republican Senate nominee Mehmet Oz said local political leaders should have a say in whether abortions are permitted, we’re learning that the GOP nominee for a North Carolina House seat wants community members to review pregnant people’s abortion requests on a case-by-case basis—only if they’re survivors of rape or incest. Everyone else is out of luck.

Bo Hines, the 27-year-old Republican nominee for North Carolina’s 13th congressional district, explained his stance in an October interview with WRAL. (Christina Reynolds of EMILY’s List unearthed the interview on Tuesday.)

“Hines thinks abortion should be unlawful except in cases where a mother’s life is at risk. He wants victims of rape and incest to be allowed to get an abortion on a case-by-case basis through a community-level review process outside the jurisdiction of the federal government.”

What do they think rape is? This woman had to undergo multiple surgeries. Never mind the psychological trauma. Then she's supposed to go before some panel and beg for an abortion if she gets pregnant?

I was having a discussion with another woman about abortion and that person reverted to the old trope about what some of the woman wear. It was very disturbing. The only thing that stopped me from callering her an ignorant so and so was that I think she IS developmentally disabled (but higher functioning). A community level review accountable only to who? A person who has just been so traumatized is supposed to meet with an entire board of mostly men to explain what happened? This is sick as fuck and only the demented mind of oz would even think of this.

Because it's quite clear about what to do with rape cases:

1) If a married woman is raped, she and her victim get murdered if caught.

2) If a virgin is raped in the city and doesn't cry out for help (never mind that there might be a gun to her head if she tries it), then not only is her rapist murdered, but SO IS SHE. He for raping, and she for not crying out.

2. a) If a virgin raped is in the country, where no one can hear cries for help, then only the rapist is murdered, UNLESS

2.b) The rapist pays his victim's father 50 shekels and marries his victim immediately thereafter. She cannot refuse to marry him, by the way.

All of the above is Deuteronomy 22:28-34.

And, no, the second half didn't negate it. Far from it. I'll remind you of these words in big red letters:

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

The laws he means? It's that stuff in Deuteronomy 22:28-34.

All of it (and a whole lot of other awful stuff) is still in effect, until the end of the earth.

The earth is still here, so the laws about murdering some victims and forcing some to marry their rapists still holds. As per the "meek and mild" deity they follow.

Even with secular society's appalling rape conviction rate, we're far more compassionate towards rape victims than that hideous book of evil.
