“If we are at a point when we are turning a brutal assault on an 82-year-old man at home in the middle of the night into a joke, we are in serious trouble.” - ⁦@DanRather⁩

Not A Joke
A dangerous response to a serious incident

In the ever-churning realities of our current news cycles, where stories and outrages sweep over our consciousness in unrelenting waves, it is too easy for something of grave importance to be overwhelmed by new events.

We have a midterm election of historic consequences less than a week away. There are the war in Ukraine, elections in Brazil and Israel, the shape of our economy, and so many other stories clamoring for our beleaguered attention. But amidst it all, we should not let go of what happened a few nights back at the San Francisco home of Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House. It was a moment of reckoning about where we are as a nation.

What actually took place — the truth — is coming into focus. An intruder armed with a hammer broke into Pelosi’s house in the middle of the night looking for the speaker. According to court records, his intentions were to kidnap Pelosi, interrogate her, and break her kneecaps if he felt she “lied.” Instead he found only her 82-year-old husband, Paul, at home. Paul Pelosi is now in the hospital with a fractured skull.

The facts of this case, what we know of them so far, are harrowing. Like the events of January 6, we also are left with a sense that as bad as it was, it could have been a lot worse. But that should provide little comfort. It is imperative that we zoom out and see a bigger picture, because how some of the country reacted to this attack, particularly many prominent Republican politicians and their cheerleaders and normalizers in the media, is chilling. It should also be shocking. That many of our fellow Americans are not shocked is a sad validation of how vitriolic right-wing rhetoric has become.

Decrying violence should be a given. But instead, we have seen outrageous conspiracy theories, false equivalence, a general lack of outrage, and even people trying to turn a violent assault into a joke. A joke. It is obviously not a joke. It is the opposite of a joke.

Do you remember last time, when all the GQP ballots came in first and were counted, and they said they'd won the election? Yet, when the ballots were counted from mail in ballots not only did they catch up with the GQP, they went PAST them: That was a RED MIRAGE effect. Now the NY Times is covering it's ass, after yelling the Dems are done for most of this election cycle:

Why Early Results on Election Night May Be Misleading Again
As in 2020, Republican votes are more likely to be reported first in key states, giving the party’s candidates deceptively large early leads that will probably diminish later on.

I believe that's got a good chance to happen again, and cue the GQP US Taliban "Lets steal the 2022 Mid-term" Party once again will cry foul, cry that the election was stolen except louder and stronger and on double doses of crack, meth, Johnnie Walker Red and cocaine, and fatass tRump will be out there yelling the loudest with his lying, treasonous ass, and calling for a civil war and violence which is what he's been calling for at his dwindling numbers of deplorables at his hitler rallies.

Also this time, MORE Maggots who ran and lost their election to Dems will be in court, and it will take months to get this shit straightened out unfortunately, but it will be, and they'll be crying and whining and probably get more violent. Dems better fucking not concede any race until all the t's are crossed and i's dotted, and they get court rulings et al. in their favor

The so-called liberal but is not liberal but mostly reich-winged, corporate, greedy and hungry for ad dollars, views and click money that they got from fatso that they don't get with a real president in President Biden. Look at Andrea Mitchell, who my friend actually said it's sad that Fetterman's running and had that debilitating stroke. Earth to her, look at who YOU'RE married to, and how much you slur, stutter and make mistakes during your own broadcasts. Fetterman's recovering, but she's nowhere near recovery. She should have retired a while back. She's an embarrassment and shill for the reich wing, and so are a lot of fools on MSNBC like Katy Kay or whatever your name is, look over across the pond at your own country, where your prime minister had a head of lettuce survive longer than her run in office, and she has nerve to say Pres. Biden doesn't exactly make people feel confident. And tRump did? Take yourself back across the pond and fix your country's mounting problems, and that new prime minister is a billionaire leading your Parliament. Good luck with that. Hell, and Brexit has the UK swirling the drain right now in terms of the british pound and it's weakness, and we can't forget about that bothsideriam fool and court jester Chuck Toad.

If Garland had charged the crimes investigated by Mueller, Trump would have been stopped right then.

We would be in a very different place now. Mueller said he had the evidence to charge Trump.

Saying what needs to be said, but it won’t move the meter with anyone who really needs to read it - AND to face what it’s saying.

We'll soon see if people can re-enter it after having known society and at minimum base tribalism.
