Keep in mind there is a Biden/Harris sign still on full display inside the enclosed front porch. Anyone who knocks on the door can't miss it.
Anyway, this woman is running for county commissioner. At first I didn't know she was a GOPer. Even her literature doesn't list a party. But when she told me what area of the county she represented BEFORE redistricting, I knew. OK, and she also kind of looked like one. Can't explain it - just the vibe she gave off. Regardless, I was most cordial.
After she left I check out her info. Yup GOP and anti mask mandate, to boot.
Her one redeeming virtue is she loves cats. She saw Arthur and Carys and she immediately 'softened'. She told me she stopped at another house where the woman was fostering a litter of tiny kittens. She said she stayed, for a while, to play with them.
Still not going to vote for her, but credit to her for knocking on the door of an obviously Democratic household.

(875 posts)I get cards from various candidates and you cannot find the word republican on some of them. If it is on there its usually buried on the back somewhere. I think that some are aware of the stain and are trying to avoid it. Of course as soon as I see it I throw them away

(8,752 posts)Their campaign signs avoid red, use blue colors. The recent adds in a local paper has a proud democratic list of all our candidates, blue color, Titled 2022 Democratic Candidates with web site and contact information of democratic headquarters at the bottom. Two pages over was a half page vertical add titled, Official 2022 Voter Guide for responsible citizens. All in yellow with black print.
NOWHERE on the whole add does it mention GQP. No contact info, Natta! There were people at the precinct handing out that yellow list with zero mention of Republican. People may take one and just see Official 2022 Voter Guide and think thats everybody running. They know they suck!!!

(32,006 posts)Its hard to explain. Like a sort of air of superiority? Like a know-it-all?
So I guess its possible to love cats and be a GOPer. Who knew!

(26,268 posts)At first she came across as rather hard and brittle. The fake tan and harsh bleached blond look didn't help that, any. But as soon as she saw the kittens, I saw a human being.
Her literature shows she has the support of the Sheriff's Dept. It does NOT show any endorsement from Sheriff Chris Swanson, who I know is a strong Democrat. He has endorsed Dan Kildee for re-election.

(21,487 posts)but not the sheriff himself sounds like dissembling and deliberately misleading messaging.
If she comes by again, maybe Madoc can knock her off the step.

(9,267 posts)Theyre authoritarian types who cant possibly accept a creature who has no intention of doing what they say.
I think it was Terry Pratchett who referred to cats as Little Republicans.
Now Im going to wonder which of his 41 books that line is in

(26,268 posts)I have the feeling this woman might just have an uphill battle because this is a traditionally VERY Blue area.

(94,597 posts)Too many people here are ready to discount all Republican voters as hopeless. I'm reminded of a story that Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin told me. When she first ran, she talked about campaigning in the Red Counties of the district, and was told it was a waste of time, and that the previous candidate had lost them by 90%. Her reply was that she planned to lose them by 70%. Every possible vote is worth pursuing.

(51,308 posts)Good point.
Siwsan
(26,268 posts)Which is why I wondered about her. That being said, the anti masking proclamation was the deal breaker, no matter the party.

(13,523 posts)Democrats that dont spend time in rural farm areas. I sometimes think that is a mistake. Republicans complain the democrats dont even try to engage, talk or visit with them. I heard a local story today on this subject on my local NPR station. I know they will likely get doors slammed in their faces. They need to at least try though.

(1,766 posts)Down where I am, being an open Democrat can be dangerous to one's health. Maybe if you lived with that kind of terror all the time, you'd have a different view of the violent scumbags who belong to that party. I've had those monsters vandalize my car and home, terrorize my child and pets, and pull guns on me.
So, yeah, I write them off, because I have to. Coming into contact with them has proven to be dangerous to me and mine.

(94,597 posts)Governors Beshear (KY) and Kelly (KS) won in part because Republicans put up opponents that even Republicans didn't like. We can't always relay on that opportunity.

(649 posts)Shes around 30 years old and beat the very popular county commissioner the last election. She won this primary by just a few votes - I get the vibe that her republican opponent has angry friends, and wont support her. That might explain why shes knocking on democratic households.

(31,828 posts)Monday night - about 7:15. My husband kept them there for 40 minutes.
Imagine their surprise when they turned the corner to the street our house is actually on - and saw all of the signs.

(33,525 posts)They ask for her by name. It's a little bit of fun flipping them off. I get texts from the rebukes on my work phone. The woman who had this number is apparently a hard drinking right wing nut.

(26,268 posts)Now the calls are coming through with out the 'RNC' identifier. I recognize them by the area code. NOBODY else calls me from the Washington DC area codes.

I might give them a lovely dessert and wish them well (and please leave very, very quickly)

(26,268 posts)But nothing would have been gained by being rude.
Of course, I didn't know about her anti masking stance until she had left. Perhaps that would have triggered some 'discussion'.

(9,814 posts)I voted for everyone with a "D", propositions as I chose, and as for
School board candidates who said NOTHING about cancel culture,
Candidates who bragged on being real estate agents, and no stance on anything at all,
* Hospital board candidates who said NOTHING about right to choose

I'm not cut out for rudeness.

(26,268 posts)But on reflection I do remember when I mentioned something about Covid and how I still wore a mask when I went out and about, she didn't respond. In fact, that's about when she made her move to leave.

One day, I hope, misinformation will be far harder to disseminate.

Contradiction?
Siwsan
(26,268 posts)I wouldn't doubt that her seeing that Biden/Harris sign on my porch wall kind of mitigated her usual spiel.
During the last election there was one house in the entire subdivision that had GOP campaign signs in the yard. The rest of the yards, if they had signs, had signs for Democrats. The man living in the house with the GOP signs had Alzheimer's. Before that happened to him, he always supported Democrats.
