I use twitter regularly. I have a group of about 40 people in two very specific topic areas (non political) that I interact with. All the noise in the platform has been outside my circle so I havent seen any reason to do the Im outta here kind of announcement. I dont click ads and dont interact on what might be call bot-magnet topics.
Today I open it on my iPhone and get the request twitter would like to connect to other devices on your Wi-Fi network. Allow/dont allow.
What the #%*!
Now they want to scope my other devices. That aint gonna happen. Looks like Elon has a big brother complex.
Now
to figure out how to maintain long connections without him in the picture.

(14,961 posts)Facebook is all about data mining and it works, better than even they ever expected. There is an excellent documentary on social media and just how addictive it is and how they mine way more data on individuals than anyone would have an imagined.
I found it, the Social Dilemma (2020) it's terrifyingly eye opening.
Data harvesting is just a way to monetize the platform.

(5,327 posts)What does that even mean? You want somebody else to follow your opinions and random thoughts? Why? And how many other people do you "follow"? Seems like having more than just a few people to follow would take up a lot of time. If that's your idea of fun have at it, I guess.
As for me, I think the forum idea is a much better method of exchanging thoughts.

(32,645 posts)When I would click on the Tweet that's posted in DU, it would take me to Twitter. Then I was getting stopped when it demanded that I sign up for an account. (The work-around is to open the Tweet in an incognito window, in which case I could read the tweet and replies.)
So what has changed this week, with the new ownership? No more "paywall" activity and no more stopping me at the front gate. I've been able to go in and read everything, but I still couldn't reply since I don't have an account. I think this new openness is to draw in more new members and beef up their click-view numbers. None of us are "Blue-Check" members anyway, so they only care about getting paid by the "Blue-Check" people.
It might be a good strategy for all I know, but I still have no interest in ever joining Twitter.
