CNN's New Morning Show Garners Less Than 400,000 Viewers, Marking Latest Loss For Network's New Boss

CNN’s new morning show, CNN This Morning, tanked in the ratings during its debut earlier this week, garnering even less viewers than the average viewership of its predecessor, RadarOnline.com has learned.

In a surprising development to come as new CNN boss Chris Licht continues to shakeup the network’s on-air talent and program lineup, CNN This Morning – which premiered on Tuesday and saw Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins as its cohosts – debuted to abysmal numbers.

That is the revelation found by Nielsen Media Research, whose data showed only 387,000 total viewers tuned in to watch the network’s new morning show between 6 AM and 9 AM.

...

New Day, CNN This Morning’s predecessor, garnered a daily average of 404,000 viewers throughout the month of October – meaning Licht’s new program with Lemon, Harlow and Collins at the helm failed to beat even the show it replaced.

...

CNN This Morning’s poor premiere also came amid reports the struggling network’s employees are becoming increasingly more irked with Licht and his abrupt changes, layoffs and budget cuts.

It goes on to talk about how Licht's other big moves have also been ratings embarrassments thus far. Whether you view it (as I do) CNN moving more to the right or whether you say it's just them moving to a more so-called "straight, objective news reporting" (fair and balanced, one might say? ) as some others have tried to paint it as, either way, it's been a failure.

GOP/Corporate friendly coverage is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th priority.

They would rather have one person watching conservative propaganda than five people watching real news.

Unlike every other station, they really don't care about attracting and keeping viewers?

It's not that they don't care at all, they would love to get high ratings for pro-corporate coverage.

But if it is a choice between higher ratings or sticking with the conservative talking points, the propaganda will win.

The less conservative viewers will opt for Door Number 3, while the hard core Fox bots want the hard stuff, not the watered-down product being offered on CNN.

Fortunately for Licht, his paycheck doesn't depend on him making any good decisions or smart moves. Because meritocracy.

Jake Tapper is not a prime-time anchor. He's an afternoon guy along with Wolf. Laura Coates doesn't need Allison Cameratta to hold her hand. It's f*cking patronizing.
The only reason that Lemon's ratings were down is because they foolishly got rid of Chris Cuomo. Yes I said it. Getting rid of Cuomo was a mistake.
It will take them years to rebuild their audience after this f*ck up. They don't even know what they're trying to be at this point. It's pathetic.
Also I don't want to see Kaitlin Collins on my tv first thing in the morning, not that I watch CNN in the morning anyway.

I feel bad for Don Lemon. Maybe he could find another job somewhere else.

cable news audiences often take time to build and it can go either way. I won't watch (it starts at 3 AM my time) but I have always like Poppy Harlow and she seems almost tailor made for Today Show/GMA-style soft news.

Also, the headline should say "fewer than 400,000 viewers," but apparently the Radar Online editor doesn't care about that stuff.

And the first couple days, Lemon was dressed like an extra in Miami Vice, which just didn’t work for me in the morning.

with each other. It's like they're trying to make a CNN "Fox & Friends," unable to understand right wingers want the real thing - hate and all - not a moderate imitation.
