General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsFor being such a genius Musk sure is stupid...maybe he's an idiot savant. Can't run a business, except
into the ground.
Advertisers fleeing, employees suing, government oversight about to engage. All in the first week. Gotta wonder just how stupid one person can be
.but then he has his idol the Orange Anus to look up to and exemplify. So maybe he is only the second stupidest businessman in America.
We now, maybe, have two master business people who seem to have that magic touch
everything they touch turns to shit.
Maybe Musk would be better off going back to his jalopy business and figuring out how to make his door handles work in cold weather. Gee, wouldnt that be a genius move?

(10,914 posts)To be fair, his most prominent business of electric cars was a pretty empty field at the time. There simply were no electric cars on the market. His rocket business did have existing product, but there was a need for competition, which he filled.
But both of those are mostly industrial manufacturing, forming metal into the shape of a car or rocket. When the product is done, either it works, or it doesn't.
Twitter is a completely different business. A social network is a lot more like hosting party than it is about making something. It's a lot more subjective and driven by the whims and tastes of it's users. His management style is not going to be good for that company or it's customers.

(1,204 posts)If you look at most of the "geniuses", they have one thing in common: a single-minded fixation on a very narrow set of goals, from a very young age. Elon wrote a video game in BASIC when he was 12, around the same time I did. What I didn't do, was continue with it. He did. As a result, he is rich but woefully immature and uneducated in pretty much everything except coding and engineering.
Legends are for storytelling, but they serve no purpose in the real world.

(14,275 posts)He does not have the emotional intelligence necessary to manage a social network. I get that the controlling the algorithm must hold a fascination for him for a technical mastermind like him, but Christ on a Cracker - he just does not comprehend the unprecedented level of self-owning and damage he is doing.

(15,223 posts)I read earlier on Facebook that one of the laid off employees was able to suspend Elon Musks account before leaving. No way to verify, but I did laugh.
ForgedCrank
(1,782 posts)turned out to be fake. Never happened.
However, behavior like that is exactly why he had to lock out all of the employees, even the good ones. There's no way to determine who is trustworthy and who is not. One jerk could do a lot of damage to a company.
I'm not really an Elon Musk fan, but sabotage is a real threat, and it's not cool at all to vandalize or destroy someone elses property.

(15,223 posts)There was no way to verify.
But why would anyone on DU be defending Musk after he laid off a bunch of employees just because hes a billionaire jerk who could?
Your post is a red flag to me. I wonder a lot of late just which side some here are on. The holier than thou attitude is a little bit stuffy. If someone did get a little payback toward him over his handling of the Twitter situation, maybe thats what an asshole deserves.

(1,782 posts)there are a lot of people who start seeing imaginary red flags anytime someone disagrees with them.
I explained to you a reason those internal people were locked out. If you still believe it was simply "just because hes a billionaire jerk who could", then carry on. Beside the fact that I think Musk is a weirdo, I'll repeat the part you skimmed over or purposefully ignored in my previous post: EHEM: I don't like him. That said, I still disagree with you 100%. I'm here to discuss things, not be anyone's cheerleader.
And yes, I consider myself "holier" than people who would be in favor of vandalizing the property of others. It's not only illegal, it's ethically wrong. If that is considered "stuffy" to you, then so be it. I'll stand on that hill and you can throw rocks all day.
SMDH...

(15,223 posts)But I felt you sure were quick to condemn someone for fighting back against a person who is and always has been a jerk to others. Musk doesnt play fair and therefore if he got some push back from treating Twitter employees badly, then good for them for having a little fire to fight back.
I live in reality. Some people deserve a little comeuppance. Go ahead and stand on your hill. The ones throwing rocks are going to be people like Musk because they do not play by the rules, they fight dirty, and the only way to get even with them is to fight back the same way.
You disagree? Aw, Im crushed.

(1,782 posts)from insulting you since it's not a thing I do. I'm holier on that front as well.

(15,223 posts)Those terrible employees are fighting back again! Some of them probably even called him an asshole under their breath. Im sure you are shocked.
They should be happy they ever had a job and just find another one, right? Because the billionaire always gets to call the shots.
Well Im glad these people are fighting back. Now you have yourself a fine day. Dont we normally say good day or evening in America?

(7,255 posts)It didn't have a blue tick, Elon Musk's does.
In fact, that was the major point the tweeter Don Lewis who was the source of this was trying to make:

1/3 - Oh wow! Looks like before being laid off a Twitter employee may have suspended @eIonmusk's account. . .😮
Don Lewis
@DonLew87
2/3 - Oh wait! Turns out that @eIonmusk account is suspended, but the 'Chief Twit' @elonmusk account is still active.

@DonLew87
3/3 - This also shows one of the problems with an open blue check system with no real verification. That imposter Musk account could look that much more real with a purchased $8/month blue check. 🤷🏽♂️
The imposter used an old trick. The "l" in Elon was actually an upper-case I.
(This sort of scam could have been avoided if Twitter had used a serif typeface for user names, but design considerations yadayadayada.)

(52,309 posts)Many autistic people are really talented in one of a few narrow areas (such as math/computers), but clueless in others (such as socially, at least when interacting with non-autistic people)
But most autistic people recognize their deficits and care about the consequences. Musk appears not to care about his affect on others, and insists on getting his own way, hence the sociopathy.

We often also have patterns that we follow, and have meltdowns or shutdowns.
I could go on. But my "aut-dar" just does not ping with him.
I could be wrong, and he could just be really good at masking, but then I'd expect him to need massive, frequent downtime to recover.
Again, it's possible he's an autistic but I just don't see it.
What I do see is someone who's personality was formed in a life chock full of privilege who never needed to learn to care about others. and as you said, he doesn't seem to even consider he could have deficits. Which IMO could mean he is possibly another narcissist like Trump, though I don't know enough about Musk to be even reasonably sure, and I really don't want to observe him.
