…that the people on stage are like the performers at the old circus ‘freak shows’. This is the modern day equivalent of a freak show. Even better, the audience is part of the performance.

18. Reminds me of the documentary "Marjoe"

It was made in the 1970s and followed a young evangelist who was having qualms about what he was doing. So he allowed a film crew to film everything and expose it. He describes EXACTLY how they whip up the people to fleece them, and even lets them film them counting the money afterwards.

Highly recommend.

25. sadly christianity has always tried to be a big tent movement.

with any big tent there are always folks you think are awful but alas it goes against the concept of the big tent so you hold your nose and move along.
The democratic party claims to be a big tent and this allows some of the infighting we so often see.

The Baskin Robbins 31 flavors of christianity approach has worked ok for a long time as it has for other groups.
A big tent moving in one direction can do great things.

Problems arise when what make you different is greater than what hold you together.

But there is still so much work to be done. Hungry folks to be fed, sick to be cared for, homeless to find a roof. but alas we are distracted by bullshit like above.

I cringe when i see the stuff like above because folks think that is what christianity is all about.
I cringe when i see folks brag that their church must be the right one because of its full parking lot on sundays and not because of the number of meals served to the needy (as in zero...its a pull yourself up by the bootstrap congregation)

My church made me a radical lefty....and as the christian big tent gets smaller i expect to be push out of its canopy
