I'm listening to C-Span (Washington Journal) this morning.
First segment: Is a candidate's military record important as far as how you will vote?
Republican callers: Off the wall rants, Gung-ho, YES YES YES etc.
But every one of them voted for and still support BONESPURS McCHICKENSHIT

(10,192 posts)Cleland, who lost limbs in service to his country, was falsely smeared as a terrorist sympathizer.
Kerry volunteered for the most dangerous Navy duty in Vietnam and served with distinction. He was "swiftboated" by the right to boost dim son Bush, who used his daddy's connection to get a cushy spot in the Texas air national guard. He didnt even bother to complete that service, and yet miliary service was a net negative for Kerry in the election.
Republicans are liars and hypocrites.
Added to that in the Trump era:
Treasonous fascists.

(6,265 posts)right on the mark. Thank you. We must have reminders in these times the BIG LIE is still reigning supreme among the stupid and gullible in trump's base.

(24,653 posts)I was on the student council in my high school in Marietta. He met with us in the school library one afternoon, and I was an instant fan girl. I was a politics junky at a young age. What can I say?
He was so engaging and encouraging. I would have loved to have had him as a mentor.
I lost my fucking mind when he was smeared.

Max Cleland had more courage, patriotism, and morailty in the little finger of his remaing hand than the entire Republican caucus has in what remains of their poisoned hearts.

(12,870 posts)And, if you are able, volunteer for your local Democratic Party to help get out the vote.
Try to persuade people you know, but do it with kindness.
If all our collective efforts arent enough, don't despair. Live your life the best you can and contribute what you can in the next election.
Life is long and things change, sometimes for the better.

(9,760 posts)but I ended up having to have back surgery two days ago. I'm supposed to be getting lots of rest between bouts of walking. That didn't work out too well yesterday. My mom was here to help my husband take care of me, but we ended up having to take care of her. I didn't sleep at all last night.
I shouldn't be on DU at all. I'm just so anxious about the elections!

(35,344 posts)to be independents are Republicans. I heard stuff on there crazier than you hear on Fox and the moderators let them
go on and on. It's the same thing with police, they back the Blue but support J6 when they beat the blue with flag polls.

(10,192 posts)Don't know how the hosts can sit there expressionless, gravely nodding their heads while pretending these people aren't complete imbeciles.
it's like the fringiest of the fringe go and babble on C-span and rarely if ever does the moderator even react let alone make an effort to pull them back into reality.

(129,068 posts)The broadcasts of Congressional sessions, gavel to gavel, and their hearings, political panel discussions hosted by many different political organizations, proceedings from political conferences/conventions, historical politically-focused special programming and interviews, their "Road to the White House" series, their "Booknotes" program, and hell... even their broadcast of "Question time" (with the British PM) weekly, are more than worth it.
The "networks" (OTA and cable) do NOT show this programming (outside of some clips/soundbites).

There is no way he could avoid bragging about how great he would have been. He does not understand stolen valor.

(3,557 posts)If anything, my military service and combat experiences are the events that pushed me and my politics hard to the left.
Going on daily combat patrols and interacting with the actual people of Iraq did a lot to soften my outlook on life and people in general, but thats a whole other conversation in itself.
