(58,662 posts)It'll take more than one good season to end the drought. We're hopeful the snow will hold, for sure.
Western Washington here and I believe we just finished the dryest October on record.

I'm not in the mountain area, but this morning the temp and air feels almost balmy which surprised me.
I haven't checked yet, but it feels like a tropical system unlike the rain a couple of days ago which felt like a normal chilly front, and it turns out to have delivered a significant snow pack in the sierras.
So badly needed. I hope it just continues just like this hroughout the season. I'm loving it.
Editing to mention I'm in North of San Francisco, 30 miles inland from the coast.

(82,849 posts)Now more accurately known as an atmospheric river, as a low pressure cold front drops down from the Arctic and focuses all that moisture in the western Pacific into a stream aimed at the West Coast. It's rather impressive seen on a weather map, more like weathering a super storm for those in its path. Lost power briefly last night, and had a big limb come down off one of our backyard fir trees.

(5,721 posts)It generally causes a warm-up as well as dumping a lot of rain. The first two atmospheric rivers that hit here (Vancouver Island) last week came from the north and had generally cold air. This last one came from the southwest and was a pineapple express, causing the temperatures yesterday to jump into the mid-teens (Celsius).

(27,448 posts)We drove back from out. Place near Lassen Volcanic National Park yesterday. We had a few inches on Wednesday and are due for 2-4 feet tomorrow.
Glad to see the fire season finally over.

We had a nice "pre-game" soak about a week or two ago.
What I've been reading is that it may be another La Nina year, and we might get a lot of precipitation on the back end of the season.
We'll see. We've had wet Novembers before only to see it fizzle out as the season wore on.

We needed the rain so bad. The air in NW Missouri on Thursday was absolutely crispy, like it could literally catch fire.

Water in the wildlife water dishes was frozen this morning.

(28,340 posts)Didn't need it as bad as many other areas but we'll take it just the same. Plus, all the tamarack are bright gold right now, so the usually stunning scenery is dialed up a notch. Looks kinda like this:
But with bigger mountains and more snow.

(15,810 posts)High winds for 24 hours. Small branches here and there but no damage. Our power stayed on but unfortunately thousands in the area are without power.
