Twitter seened almost like a faceless utility to most people

Sure it was a business organized for private profit, most utilities are, but personalities didn't overshadow the platform itself. Twitter operated a popular service seemingly, to most anyway, without embracing any particular ideology or strong political leanings. That meant people of all kinds of stripes felt relatively comfortable using it. It almost had a virtual monopoly in its space, like major network news did in the days before cable and the internet. Twitter's corporate ownership stayed way behind the scenes, where it mostly avoided making waves that could rock its ship...

Well that's all shot to hell now. Twitter is now virtually synonymous with Elon Musk's monumental, childish and highly opinionated ego. No one can ever see or use it the same now. A minority of users will embrace the direction that Musk takes it, but the model that made Twitter successful is shattered. Pretty amazing.

Once the rat figured out he was in trouble, went looking for funds and ended up in the company of pooty and ali baba willing to ante up for a favor; use the control of the platform to help them in their efforts. Like pull the plug on the Ukrainians, since there was a kerfuffle about Starlink, how about the tweet machine? Better even since everyone who helps them is also using it to communicate globally.

The added gain for these funders is that it will also help fuck with our election coming up. We use it to report irregularities and video crimes in progress.

It's a win/win for the fascist wealthy. Hard factor to miss.

and sell it's major assets for short term gains while marketing crap under the old brand name. Somehow I can't give Musk credit for even being that immorally clever. I think his ego led him into a money trap and he is turning to anyone willing to provide cash, and those are almost uniformly bad actors who he has some affinity for anyway.

He doesn't have the capacity for fomenting this situation but he's willing to help a despot for a thrill and some kind of gain even if not specifically described.
