Joe Manchin says Biden's remarks are "outrageous and divorced from reality"

Sen. Joe Manchin on Saturday slammed President Joe Biden after he called for coal plants across the US to be shuttered, saying Biden’s remarks are “outrageous and divorced from reality” and suggesting it’s “time he learn a lesson.”

Biden, while speaking at a stop in Carlsbad, California, on Friday about the CHIPS and Science Act, said, “We’re going to be shutting these plants down all across America and having wind and solar also providing tax credit to help families buy energy-efficient appliances.”

Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat who has longtime ties to the coal industry, seized on the comments in a statement on Saturday, calling them “not only outrageous and divorced from reality, they ignore the severe economic pain the American people are feeling because of rising energy costs.”

“Comments like these are the reason the American people are losing trust in President Biden and instead believes he does not understand the need to have an all in energy policy that would keep our nation totally energy independent and secure. It seems his positions change depending on the audience and the politics of the day. Politicizing our nation’s energy policies would only bring higher prices and more pain for the American people,” Manchin continued.

It is truly his fault and Cinema's that a great deal more was not accomplished despite tremendous odds.

the Samuel Alito of the Senate.. while ol' Sam has invested decades in his quest to diminish John Roberts (and has succeeded), Manchin does not have that kind of time, consequently he is determined to degrade Biden's stature, to appear more powerful than the President of the United States...that he is reviled by most Democrats (particularly Democratic women) is not something he cares to understand...I suspect he would sell his soul (if he had one) for a shot at the presidency but until then he's going to do his damndest to undermine Biden and the Democratic agenda..great guy that Manchin!

If we get more Democrats he’s yesterday’s news. And (god forbid) if the GQP takes over they won’t give him the time of day.

The Senator from Big Coal is about to be as lonely as the Maytag repairman.

Shockingly enough Texas energy policy has helped push the industry... i.e. it's a weird conjunction with rural (typically RW Republican) landowners and ranchers and what might seem to be progressive energy policies. Literally, they wanted to expand their income streams.

But frankly, that's also how we will need to move forward on energy policy. We have to make profits and progressive energy policy align.
