EDITING to post a tweet from writer-director-producer-actor Aaron Stewart-Ahn with video of Musk saying that soon "you'll have to scroll really far to see unverified users." That's in the last 15 seconds or so. Even those currently verified will be losing their verification in a couple of months if they don't start paying Musk $7.99/mo by then. And he's trying to justify this by claiming this will get rid of trolls and spam and bots - as if that fee will stop them.

(3,626 posts)Problem is, Twitter isn't that type of company. You can't make it more profitable by firing half the workers and squeezing the rest for unpaid overtime and paying them in attaboys. You can't sell off the infrastructure because there isn't any. Twitter is a community, one that is going to evaporate with breathtaking speed once the ramifications of Elon's new tenure start to percolate down to individual non-celebrity users. Hey, email and texting still exist. For that matter so does MySpace.
