Followed by creator monetization for all forms of content
So, basically, he's offering self-publishing via Twitter, with Twitter taking a share as well as charging the creator a monthly fee. (And of course, as mentioned elsewhere, paywalled videos that are likely to be mostly porn, copying OnlyFans.)
I posted a thread recently with tweets from the editor/publisher of an online SF/F magazine who was saying he needs Twitter, and needs current users to stay on Twitter, to keep his online magazine going.
But it looks to me as though Musk is planning to compete with online magazines, the smaller ones anyway.
Just as he's made it clear he's hoping to compete with YouTube and lure content creators away from that platform. And TikTok as well, I assume.
He thinks he's going to take over the online world, all the while providing a safe space for RWNJs.

(5,164 posts)I like youtube, there is lots of great educational content and I can listen to music etc. my channels are monetized with ads again now, but I dont think I make any money yet, I am not sure. Some of my educational content is now unlisted because I use it to teach but I immediately gained followers there when I started it during the early pandemic and I turned off comments. I dont pay for premium yt. What annoys me about it is that I cant download my own videos now if I want to without premium.

(19,201 posts)making so many changes the people who just browse for content will become discouraged and walk away from it.
Maybe not. I'm not a Twit and never will be. Eloon Musk can play with his new toy and damage it anyway he wishes. He could just put a big 'CLOSED' sign on the interwebs and walk away from it.
He'd still have more than enough money to buy Uruguay and Luxembourg, just to play with.

(10,190 posts)but even after investing tens of billion$ in self-driving technology, Tesla still hasn't figured out how to design a vehicle that can negotiate an unprotected left turn in traffic on its own without killing someone.
driving in foul weather on poorly marked roads plus accident or construction zones. And, according to him, with hardware now existing in Tesla vehicles. Ain't going to happen soon if at all IMO...

(10,190 posts)"Elon Musk has said that Teslas value is significantly dependant on whether it can develop self-driving technology, otherwise the company is 'worth basically zero'...The billionaire said that he wanted to fix a number of problems with Tesla vehicles...but that the 'overwhelming focus is on solving full self-driving'...Musk added that the feature was 'essential. Its really the difference between Tesla being worth a lot of money or worth basically zero.'"

(4,555 posts)Tesla cars are highly popular as they are so I don't get why Musk would say such a thing (unless he is just trying to drum up publicity/controversy). If what he says is actually true, this IMO would be a great stock opportunity with futures puts or short selling as I highly doubt "FSD" is going to be realized in the foreseeable future.
Maybe FSD should stand for Full Self Deception...

(24,300 posts)I think he's flailing and doesn't even have a plan for Monday. If he does it will change before then.
I live in California and my cable system has all the Silicon Valley broadcast stations, so I can't help but to have followed this guy over the years. I can't remember one time where he anounced the launch of a product and it happened on time and performed as he said it would.

I seriously doubt Musk has done any of that, even down to such basics as considering the copyright, copy control and legal liability issues that will arise. That's before issues like marketing (not his strong point) rear their heads.
He's looking at these issues as things that simply need techno-fixes. They're a lot more complicated than that. I'd imagine some of the staff he's sacked might have been able to give him some pointers and insights, but then not simply tugging the forelock and snapping "Yessuh!" at his command would probably be a firing offence.
