13. IMO, this coming election could be the beginning of the end of our traditional democracy.

And it's final breath will be determined in 2024. Capitalism will be fine. It's not capitalism that suffers in a authoritarian state, it's the people. Capitalism doesn't need democracy because capitalism has no morality to it. It can flourish under any system, really. However, society - i.e. people - will do much better under a democratic system.

What I fear is we will become a faux democratic society like many other nation states. We could have elections still but will they be legitimate? Will our vote actually determine who governs? Many predict that even if the GOP loses in the future they will refuse to concede and the various states determine the winner.

In many ways that is how our nation was founded. Although many like to say "We The People" in reality our founding father did not allow the people to decide - that evolved through the years as more and more people became eligible to participate in our democracy.

We have made great strides as a nation but it is up to the people to maintain our democracy and we do not seem too interested as the present time.

I walk by the early voting place every day. Lots of us over 50s, lots of women, and I’m seeing more people of color this year. All good signs, but I don’t think I’ve seen a soul under 40. Doesn’t mean they’re not voting, just haven’t caught sign of one yet. Like looking for rare birds lol - I’ll be super excited when I see one!
