Nancy Pelosi: "It's going to be a long haul."

___House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held back tears speaking Monday for the first time about being awakened by pounding on the door as Capitol Police rushed to tell her about the assault on her husband at the family’s home in San Francisco.

“I was very scared,” Rep. Pelosi told CNN in an interview. “I’m thinking my children, my grandchildren. I never thought it would be Paul.”

Rep. Pelosi said she was sleeping at her apartment in Washington, having just returned from San Francisco, when there was a “bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,” on her door. It was about 5 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 28.

“We didn’t even know where he was or what his condition was,” Rep. Pelosi said, in excerpts of the interview that is scheduled to air later Monday. “We just knew there was an assault on him in our home.”

“People say to me, ‘What can I do to make you feel better?’ I say: ‘Vote!’” Pelosi told those on the call.

Her voice cracked at times as she said of her husband’s recovery, “It’s going to be a long haul.”

it made her feel better. She sent a thank you a few days later but immediately got down to business.

5. Recovery from a brain injury is tricky

My late brother-in-law was in a horrible hit and run traffic accident. He had a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for several days. He didn't die, but he never recovered. His personality changed completely. I pray that Mr. Pelosi does much better.

6. Did he have brain damage? Everything that I've read

says skull damage but does not mention damage to his brain. Skull damage could affect the brain, but if so, it might be superficial. Recovery, with or without brain damage, would be long for anyone, but especially for someone in his 80s. But the fact that he has been released already suggests that any brain damage is not severe.

9. any serious injury at that age risks a more rapid aging, possibly a decline

...the 'fully recover' stuff is pablum.

People need to consider the quality of life that's been interrupted here, really having no actual idea how Mr. Pelosi's overall health will be affected. Also his mental health needs to be considered. This isn't like the flu. It was a traumatic event, in that he'll be lucky at his age to regain normalacy in many aspects of his life and health.

PTSD from such an attack will affect him while he is physically recovering as much as he is able.

I hope that the perpetrator gets all that he deserves.

Hell someone on Fox (that MAGA asshole Jesse Watters, I presume) suggested more violence is necessary just this morning.
