___House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held back tears speaking Monday for the first time about being awakened by pounding on the door as Capitol Police rushed to tell her about the assault on her husband at the familys home in San Francisco.
I was very scared, Rep. Pelosi told CNN in an interview. Im thinking my children, my grandchildren. I never thought it would be Paul.
Rep. Pelosi said she was sleeping at her apartment in Washington, having just returned from San Francisco, when there was a bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, on her door. It was about 5 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 28.
We didnt even know where he was or what his condition was, Rep. Pelosi said, in excerpts of the interview that is scheduled to air later Monday. We just knew there was an assault on him in our home.
People say to me, What can I do to make you feel better? I say: Vote! Pelosi told those on the call.
Her voice cracked at times as she said of her husbands recovery, Its going to be a long haul.

(15,127 posts)My late brother-in-law was in a horrible hit and run traffic accident. He had a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for several days. He didn't die, but he never recovered. His personality changed completely. I pray that Mr. Pelosi does much better.

(21,500 posts)says skull damage but does not mention damage to his brain. Skull damage could affect the brain, but if so, it might be superficial. Recovery, with or without brain damage, would be long for anyone, but especially for someone in his 80s. But the fact that he has been released already suggests that any brain damage is not severe.

(85,999 posts)...the 'fully recover' stuff is pablum.
People need to consider the quality of life that's been interrupted here, really having no actual idea how Mr. Pelosi's overall health will be affected. Also his mental health needs to be considered. This isn't like the flu. It was a traumatic event, in that he'll be lucky at his age to regain normalacy in many aspects of his life and health.

(21,500 posts)PTSD from such an attack will affect him while he is physically recovering as much as he is able.
I hope that the perpetrator gets all that he deserves.
