"We got this!" (As some say.)

My great-grandmother, a staunch FDR Democrat, made Shepherd’s Pie on Election Day in 1960. She made it again in 1964. These were coincidences. Allegedly, anyway.

She told my grandmother that she recalled making it in prior years when Democrats did well in elections.

My grandmother didn’t buy it.

I became aware of all of this in 2007. So what did I do? I made it in 2008. Then again in 2012. For reasons beyond my control, there was no Shepherd’s Pie in 2016. But there was in 2020.

All of the makings for Shepherd’s Pie are in my house tonight and I will be making it tomorrow, trying this for the first time in a midterm year.

DISCLAIMER: I am fully aware that many, if not most people do not believe in superstition. I honestly don’t know where I stand on it. But I thought I would share this just for fun tonight.

Edit: corrected aunt

I use Impossible Burger or Beyond meat, but you could use whatever you want. I go heavier on the maple syrup and Worcestershire sauce.

I'm for anything that focuses the will out into the Universe of a Blue Tsunami! Focus as you make it, Beam... Focus on that big, beautiful Blue Wave washing out all that red...

I'm for anything that helps! We'll be heading out to the polls early tomorrow morning to cast our (BLUE) votes! Got a voting guide to take with me so they don't trip me up on the ballot measures or the judges, too. I'm prepared!

More power to us! Hail Women! Hail those men who support us! We shall overcome!

I use hamburger as opposed to lamb, though. But it is tasty!

A good tradition.

17. Ah, for the shepherd's pie I use Bob Evans mashed potatoes. They are fine. BUT...

for holidays and special occasions, if I mash, I get several russet potatoes and bake them until they are soft inside. Then I scrape the potato out of the peel into a pan, and beat it with butter and half and half. Pretty good! Easier than boiling too, I think.

Also think a blue tsunami is coming. It has to. Florida? Probably a stretch. I live here and know republicans that are as alarmed as I am. One can hope. Plus, another hurricane is coming. Punishment for all republicans. Gettin' us all.

I made it for the first time last Saturday with help from my young grandsons. Lessons in chopping, mixing, breaking an egg, carefully rolling out our crust. I was thinking this would be a lot of fun with my boys but Hopefully this will be a new election season tradition.
