I turn 73 next week.

Have been a Marine, served time in a maximum security facility, have made and lost and made millions of dollars - at this very moment in time I have never been more skeptical of the outlook for the future of my country. It saddens me greatly that so many of my fellow citizens want to take us back to a time where we were not equal and the privledged had everything and decided everything. I

I work as hard every day as I ever have to insure a financial future for my granddaughter that will allow her to be anything/everything she wants to be. I am of the opinion that financial health will be her opportunity to have that future and that saddens me because EVERYONE should have that opportunity.

Sorry, just not feeling good about this shithole place where we live.

Those millions of republicans want an authoritarian gov't but they mistakenly think they will be the few thousand elites actually in charge.

Those millions are useful tools for those who will actually be in charge.

One poster called it a 'new social feudalism age'.

My vision of the future of the country I love is not good. The damage done by Reagan's party is amazing. Almost single handedly bringing a democratic republic to it's knees. Trump may have finished it but it began with king Ronnie.

I’m genuinely sorry for the mess they’ll have to deal with going forward, and it’s unlikely I’ll see grandkids (they can’t afford them) for which, in a sad way, I’m grateful.

I’m 62, theoretically three years from retirement. I was just watching Al Franken and Asa Hutchinson on CNN, and it punched me in the gut that if the Republicans regain power, there’s a extremely good chance I will need to work until the day I die, especially if they fuck with Social Security, Medicare, and the debt ceiling. I watch my 401K take monthly hits as it is.

Even in good times the GOP has a knack of turning the economy to total shit, and now with post-COVID effects and Ukraine, they will destroy it.

You’re not alone in your pessimism, my friend.
