Interesting voting.

I have lived and voted in my small, unincorporated community since 2007. We all vote in the one little church here. I love voting there because even though there are only around 250 minus a few living here or around here I do not know very many, I am shy about all that, but it is fun to have small contacts as they are all very friendly. This place has some Civil War history, primarily part of the Underground Railroad and my family has always lived around here so it means a great deal to me. My birth family did not give a crap about anything when I was growing up just North of here so I came to be around my best friend and to find what I could. Although much of that was to introduce the beginning political feelings of this area it has changed a lot.

I do not know but I would wager it is a pretty Republican area but then again I am always surprised by what I hear from my friends about their neighbors and what they say. Today, for the first time ever, I had to wait in a real line to vote. They were anticipating this I think as there were around 10 voting booths. I had to wait for a turn to vote, a real line several deep. The only other time this has happened since I started voting here was in August when we were voting for Roe, the place was packed.

The woman I was talking to as she checked me in told me that when they opened up this morning the place was overflowing and had been steady since. My hesitant guess is that there are more D's than anyone would expect hiding in the little spots around here. Rarely a sign for anyone but lately I have seen Biden, Pro Roe and a few signs spread out supporting a Democrat. Of all the cars in the parking lot there were no bumper stickers but for one supporting Jesus and Kobach If this tiny little country spot in Kansas feels like this it could be just my hope but....Hmmmmm.

I am hopeful.

I want to see the best in everyone even though I know I live around some people who would rather have me in a Burqua serving them night and day. For the most part I never interact with them but I do know there are some, not many, around.

Most people here are good people. Voting makes me emotional, I am not sure if that is good or not.

Well, the sign said "Pop. 500", but I think they pushed the boundaries out into farmland just to claim that many.

The actual community is a couple of blocks (on one road) of houses then it spreads out until you get to the larger farms. My farm is close to the houses but out enough to be a real farm. People talk alot about areas like this. I am very happy here and I have no idea who my neighbors are voting for. I am pretty sure they know how I vote because I have been involved with elections before and NOT ONE has ever mentioned it to me unless they too supported LGBTQ+ citizens.

There are rural areas where they all get together in a big clot and make it really hard on their neighbors who vote out of the norm, IOW voting for Democrats, they are around but so far not here.

I hope bringing you home was a good thing. I find a lot of comfort where I live, I chose it and I love it. The part of my family that was involved here were mostly Democrats having had offices or worked for the party all the way down to the Civil War, John Brown and my GGG Grandfather being the first elected Justice of the Peace right after the war. Dems all the way.

Small town life has it's difficulties but it also is a comfort for me.

I don't know how Atchison normally goes in the elections. Still, no matter how it goes learning that the smaller areas (but much bigger than my area) have people keeping the lines there is good.

Fingers crossed here. Kansas can be a scary or at least crazy place to vote.

added to the Roe vote. Fingers crossed, good thoughts sent and a vision of all the women jumping for joy last August.

There's a Blue Tsunami coming, people are pissed off about Roe, the insurrection, SS & medicare, etc.
