I turned on my little kitchen TV to MSNBC for a little bit and read the blurbs with the sound off. Prominent among them was the repeated notice that it could take days, and possibly a week, to tally all the votes.

Thank you, gods of reality. I really appreciated that.

I found out that California has cast almost 4.4 million early ballots, which pleases me since my husband and are two of those.

Now I’m taking my own advice and doing something else. Right now I need to finish my coffee and prep the house for the cleaning ladies to come this afternoon. Last night I watched the first two Harry Potter movies. I may do the same again tonight, and watch the next episodes.

I’m burned out. As Bob Dylan sang when I was young and hopeful, “The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast.”

I have to say my big worry is this quote from your post:

“Prominent among them was the repeated notice that it could take days, and possibly a week, to tally all the votes. “

I’m expecting quite a few GOP’ers to follow Trump’s “Red Mirage” playbook, falsely declare victory and then claim fraud when the early voting/mail in ballots are counted.

We won’t know the results for days and they’ll scream fraud if it doesn’t turn out the way they want.

for everyone, but my advice is to turn off the TV, and stop reading about it until tomorrow. That's how I handle it.
I pop in here every hour or two, but i'm ignoring most of the election threads. Lot's of speculation and worry, and I don't like getting riled up over it. What's done is done, the only thing left is to read the results tomorrow over coffee.

It's going to be just like 2020 in that regard. When the polls close tonight at 8.m. or whenever they close in your area, the first counts will maybe favor the Repukes. But don't despair! They will announce the mailed ballot returns AFTER that, and in most states the mailed ballots will favor the Dems by as much as 80%. Big cities like New York, Philadelphia, LA, Chicago are all going to report big numbers for the Democrats, but it takes longer to scan and count those votes.

Just be patient, even if you're in a red state. Even if it looks bad in the first counts, the Dem BLUE votes will be counted and reported later. The TV journalists already KNOW but they aren't saying it because they want us to stay glued to our TV sets. Relax it's going to be fine!

If you've already done your part, by voting or donating, phone banking... whatever.

Your job is done. Congrats.

Just be patient and see how the nation answered the call. We'll see.

No matter how it goes, don't listen to the doom trolls... we aren't going to wake up to SS marching in the streets tomorrow.

I tell myself I'm just one carbon-based lifeform on one planet amongst untold trillions in a 14-billion-year-old universe. I'm here for a blip of time. It's highly unlikely there's an "afterlife." Life goes on with or without me and my concerns. I find comfort that in being insignificant and fleeting.

For awhile there I was thinking about what I would do with my lottery winnings to shield myself from what appears to be shaping up as the new world order, but that hope is now gone. Sometimes I think about holing up in a shack in the mountains somewhere in Ted Kaczynski fashion, but then I remember my preference for electricity and hot water.

I'm past hope and concentrating on how to deal.
