Is there any hope? What am I not considering?

(4,846 posts)it's 60/40 for senate. The map for the House is too tough for us. We can only spare 5 seats when we already lost 3 in FL.

(11,636 posts)Midterm backlash vs sitting president + inflation... fundamentals too much...
The key at this point is to limit the damage... all of those swing house seats will come up in 2 years when we have renewed momentum. Any Senate seat we lose tonight is gone for 6 and will affect outcomes for the next 3 cycles. Those senate seats in GA PA NV AZ WI are gold.

(11,605 posts)NY-03 (Dem Open) was rated as a toss-up, and so far it looks really good. Major caveat: no results from Nassau yet, only a small number from Queens, and it may only be early votes. But I do recall a bit of a red mirage in this district in 2020 for President and Congress, though it's possible we changed the counting order. Early voting is very new in New York.
I still think Republicans will win the House, but it may not be the worst case scenario in terms of how many seats we lose.

(11,605 posts)I just read on NYT that New York changed its counting order to allow early processing of mail ballots. This was not the case previously. I remember watching Wasserman on Twitter for weeks after the election in 2012 as mostly blue votes trickled in from New York and California (for those wondering why I cared, I was waiting for Romney's share of the popular vote to fall to 47%).

(3,498 posts)Precedent, Gerrymandering and the unfortunate economic situation all but assured that.
No President has won seats in the House during their first midterm in over fifty years except W. And those were extraordinary circumstances.
Its just how it goes. Americans arent very smart or patient.
Our only hope is to hold the Senate. Thats still possible if not probable.

Now I sit back and wait for someone to tell me that I haven't been listening to NPR doing exactly that for the past 2 years.

(6,555 posts)I'm starting to feel like I felt when Hillary ran. There are so many things I don't understand. Why people vote the way they vote is beyond me. They reelected Rubio. Why did they reelect Rubio and Rand? Green? Desantis? What is wrong with people?
When they wake up with faux Hitler running the country, they won't be able to say they weren't warned.

(6,555 posts)fascism over Democracy. And, I am not looking forward to the damage that the repubs will do to the country, the vindictive behavior, and the encouragement of Trump. Never in my life would I have believed that our country would go down because of the likes of Trump.
Well, I don't have to hold back now from thoroughly despising those Repubs who proved tonight they weren't a fluke. I'm not giving up, but it will be ugly.
Can you imagine that Walker got over one million votes??? Why, just why??
