My liberal uncle wants to retire in Pennsylvania and hes looking at two properties, one in rural southwestern PA outside of Uniontown and the other property is in northeastern PA in rural Lackawanna county near Scranton. He knows both areas will be conservative but is one of the locations loonier than the other? Hed like to live among as few MAGA as possible.

(395 posts)I drive to Uniontown to visit Ohiopyle park on occasion and is an hour away from Pittsburgh. Uniontown is Republican country and pretty much deep red. I still see Trump a number signs on people lawns and also few signs that say "Trump won". There are quite a number of "Let's Go Brandon" signs and bumper stickers as well.
I don't know about Lackawanna county, but Uniontown is in Fayette county.
If you go by this midterm race

Lackawanna county actually went to Fetterman (52% - 46%), while Fayette county went to Oz (61% - 38%)

(10,409 posts)I drove from the DC area back home to Pittsburgh in the middle of October. Now, I wasn't driving through Fayette County, but through Bedford, Somerset, and Westmoreland counties before hitting Allegheny. From the MD/PA state line to about midway through Westmoreland was all Mastriano/Oz, with a smattering of T***p 2024 signs. The Turnpike still had the obnoxious billboards, though. Once you got closer to civilization, the Fetterman and Shapiro signs increased. On the way home, I drove the same route on rural roads because the Turnpike was fucked up. Shit was pretty scary there.
I'm not as familiar with northeastern part of the State, though.

I'd advise your uncle to look into Lackawanna County as opposed to southwestern PA.

(128,372 posts)The district is swingy/purple (the blue coming from the cities of Wilkes-Barre and Scranton and red from the rural parts). Scranton is Biden's actual hometown.
