This is the seat where Rep. Peter Meijer (R) lost to Gibbs in the primary after voting to impeach Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. Gibbs was endorsed by Trump, and Scholten lost to Meijer in 2020 in a year Biden won in the area.

3. I lived in that district from 1975 until 2015 and can't remember a Democrat ever winning that seat.

The anti-gerrymandering prop in 2020 created a seismic shift here. Woo hoo! I wish other states would follow suit.

4. The Dem won

This was Republican Peter Meijer's seat. He voted to impeach Trump and so Trump backed a total nutcase in John Gibbs to primary him. Gibbs was supported by Dems in the primary because they knew he was unelectable. He actually wrote that women shouldn't be allowed to vote or work outside the home.

This was my home district, I have a Hillary Scholten sign in my yard. She's a remarkable progressive who has spent much of her career providing free legal services to the homeless in my city.

This was a redistricted seat, an independent panel redrew my district from R+9 to D+3. The GOP spent a ton of money on Gibbs and Trump was here to speak on his behalf. Huge win!
