Question about electronic signatures.

How do you match an electronic signature to an on-record signature with the elections office? I don't know if it occurred in every precinct, but I know in some precincts you have poll workers who operate laptops, or mini-books, and they scan in the driver's license, find the voter's name, and then they are allowed to put their signature on the screen ON the laptop.

Well, everyone knows that electronic signatures are a big pile of doo-doo when it comes to accuracy.

My question: If this is happening in one precinct, is it happening in every precinct? Because it means that the poll worker doesn't have a decent signature to match, like you would if you had to sign in on a paper sign-in sheet. Does that mean in these precincts the voter is being screened more laxly than in one where the voter has to provide an accurate sample of his signature?

Oh, and another thing. After the signature is approved, the ballot is scanned into the laptop. What data is being collected? It would be okay if they're just "activating" the ballot, but not so cool if the name on the ballot is being matched with a number on the actual ballot.

I don't think that's the case, actually. I can't imagine that ballots are being printed with unique numbers.

There is no single set of voting rules or procedures in this country.

Very broadly, these are two different questions:

1. Who voted?

2. Who got how many votes?

Every systems is designed to render it impossible to work backwards from question 2 to question 1. In other words, the systems are designed to prevent obtaining answers to the question of "Who voted for whom?"

I can never get them to match because how the screen is usually placed, half way in the air rather than flat on a table and I can't place my hand on the screen like I would normally do on paper.

Unpopular opinion around here, but I think Photo ID is a much better check than signature. I would like to see some kind of nationwide photo ID. We can subsidize lower income family. Most family can take a day off and go to get driver license with their kids. I was born and raised in a country with a government ID. We are low income family but my mom or dad took a day off to get the government ID for my brother and I.
