Colorado passes free lunch for all school kids, will pay by taxing the wealthy.

Good for them!

"Colorado voters approved a ballot measure to provide free meals for all public school students, according to a call from The Associated Press.

By a comfortable 55 percent to 45 percent margin, they voted to create a program to provide those meals and help schools pay for them, according to election results.

The measure will help schools pay for the meals by raising $100 million a year by increasing taxes on the state's richest residents. Those making more than $300,000 a year will see their state tax deductions limited, increasing their taxable income."...(more)

The free school lunch program I knew was only for some students deemed needy. They had to line up at only one of the registers and got their names checked off a list. Every one knew who was poor.

I felt that that was the wrong way to do it, even though I was only a fourth grader. A universal lunch program fixes that and helps any who have fallen through the cracks in the program

And make the tax code so simple so no one can"misinterpret it".or quibble over what they owe.

Your income level is___
You pay this much ____this year.

Revise it up every year on the wealthiest.

I would also recommend that the proposals for all bills be limited to 150 pages long. It would reduce the shit republicans can tack on to potential legislation.

And each "christmas tree"be filed as 500 word proposals to be voted on individually up or down. Same with the pork proposals.

We needn't have any hungry or homeless right now, with the money we already have. It's a question of priorities, and the "family values" party actually kinda hates kids and families.

Hate kids, like big bombs, love oil.

Deductions in those days reduced everyones taxes a great deal. And those super high rates only applied to a tiny number of people to begin with. The effective rates for people making over a million was in the low 40% range.

Do away with most deductions. Treat all income the same. Same with corporation's; Make it a low rate with few deductions & they'll pay a higher effective rate than they do today.

It's not 1971 anymore.
You may wish to update your programming, name checks out though
We evolve as both a society and as a country and we're going to make sure you and your kids have healthcare & a planet they can live on.
Capitalism exploits the lower classes & is a huge reason why this social safety net in this country is God awful.
The age of old thinking is no longer the majority. And thank God it's not.

And I highly suggest you begin reading some MLK as fast as you can.
Oh BTW, this website has a "Socialist Progressives" group.

But you're free to believe total Socialism actually works. Try the true Socialist countries such as China Cuba North Korea etc. Venezuela being the latest example of the folly
