Could Biden not appoint a couple of Republican House members to positions to gain control?

Assuming we fall a couple of seats short?

Would work in states where a Democratic governor appoints the replacement, would it not?

There have to be positions where a Republican would not do much harm.

knowing doing so would shift power in the House to the Dems. That would destroy their political careers, at least within their party.

Unlike Senate, House vacancies can only be filled by elections.
The Governor's only role is to set the date of the election, which can sometimes be somewhat important.

And replacement House members are not appointed. Seat stays vacant until a by-election.

Parties, shrimp cocktail (maybe even caviar, too!), prestige, opportunity to make under the table deals, no responsibility (you can always blame the translator). Heck.

How about offering immunity from prosecution for aiding and abetting a sedition in exchange for “retiring”. You know, “to spend more time with my family.”
