We're doing well in Statewide races.
Legislative seats are gerrymandered.

(53,061 posts)4. Really do you have any facts to back that up or is this old fashioned "red state bashing"
Here are the facts that the people of Arizona are aware of
1) There is no legislative involvement in redistricting
In 2000 a people's initiative established a constitutional amendment that removed any political consideration in drawing up political lines. An independent commission draws up districts based on very specific objective requirements, like natural boundaries (rivers), political jurisdictions (county lines) and so on.
The Republicans mounted a lawsuit that went to the Supreme Court that they lost
2) Democrats account for 32% of registered voters
We are within one seat in both houses of tying the Republicans
Senate Currently 16 Republicans and 14 Democrats
House Currently 31 Republicans and 29 Democrats
If they are "gerrymandering" as you suggest they are sure doing a lousy job
3) AZ non political redistricting process is the gold standard in this country and a model for every other state in the union. Because of it this red state has 5 Dems and 4 Republicans in Congress.
I don't know the details of NY redistricting debacle but am left wondering if NY followed the AZ model would we have had the court ordered map and lose so many states, and perhaps control of the House?

state senate - dems likely 13, repubs likely 14, very close 3
state house - dems likely 33, repubs likely 36
house has a weird thing where it shows elect 2 giving dems 42? and repubs 44?
there's a ton of districts with only one party running a candidate

(53,061 posts)5. Thanks for the info
But
Your second line should read State House (not Senate)
Senate has a total of 30 seats so guessing that it is D 13/ R 14 and 3 very close?
House has a total of 60
Lots of districts are 70% one party and the other party doesn't bother wasting resources.
Ruben Gallegos (my rep) won 76% without a campaign. Most of the state districts in his area are so heavily D that no Rep bothers to file.
