Over the next two years, all of us here are going to enjoy watching Trump and the GOP tear themselves to pieces. What a fucking mess.
Like I have always said, extremism destroys itself in the end. I never believed we would lose our democracy forever. I knew things could get worse, a lot more damage could be done to our Democracy. However, like in the past, enough Americans stood up and said no more.
This election is an historic major league ass kicking. What happened in this election hasn't happened in many decades.

Realistically, the Republican party is already gone, I refuse to call them Republicans until they renounce Trump they are the Magat party.

(19,118 posts)Losing seats in the Senate. Perhaps only netting 6 or 7 in the House. Losing governors. Losing state Houses and Senates. All added up, this was the most successful midterm for any President. Even 2002 with 9/11 hanging over it saw Republicans lose in the states.
And Trump is going to respond like he always does. By doubling down and getting more extreme.

(4,913 posts)In many ways this was a major ass kicking. History shows elections like this can snowball in future elections. The GOP, their extremism, has caught up to them and they are going to have a hard time fixing it. They have to purge the crazies in their party. The majority of the people have made it clear, they are tired of the extremism.

(19,118 posts)But its not a pendulum with an equal swing. More like a football game where you have to make your possession count. This was the GOPs chance to build leads in both Houses that would prevent a total wipeout in 2024. Incumbents in the House win re-election.
But just as big is the states. In the mid terms the party out of power traditionally runs up the score in the states. The opposite happened. Dems netted more give and flipped several state legislatures. Just crazy. This bodes well for the next few elections for Democrats.
And I hope the party looks at Michigan carefully and figures out how to make what happened in Michigan happen in Wisconsin, Ohio, NC, Georgia, and even maybe Florida and Texas. We do that and democracy will flourish and the GOP will finally be forced to start changing to respond to the voters.

He may find his media time will be limited to barely existent and 99% negative news.
Conservatives will quickly latch on to the next infallible. fearless, leader that they are told to follow and the cult goes on.
