I've come to believe that a reason Rs leaned so hard into red wave was they simply had to change the story that ending Roe had caused a popular uprising.

Pro-life Rs simply could not accept this was really happening, desperately need to change the election's story line.

...centrists compete to see which candidate is the better conservative; an anathema to Democratic party politics which is fueled by progressivism and a consistently liberal base of voters.
