What is your opinion regarding the Stop Oil Protest in Europe

I want to hear thoughts. My thoughts in brief are

1. I find the defacing of priceless artworks totally despicable . Totally turns me off
2. The issue with blocking the freeways in the UK which I find much more acceptable as a form of non-violent protest.

Wait til you hear what climate crisis is doing and will continue to do to artworks.

The protests didn't damage the artworks, so.

Bunch of privileged, narcissistic jerks craving attention. It isn't clear what their point is since damaging property puts even more stressors on the environment. Cleaning up a beach or helping to save an endangered species doesn't get enough attention, I guess.

I wasn't thrilled about their tactics, but they made their point.

Most very expensive paintings are very well protected by special enclosures and may even be sealed with inert gas. Years ago I built some of these. We used museum glass which is very expensive but offers high protection from uv light.

While most might think any attention is good attention I see this as an action that focus all the attention on itself to the point that it becomes an "antic" and the message is lost.
The coverage of these events, and associated comment sections support this conclusion.
Comments about climate change itself are few are far between.

It makes me wonder who is really behind it. I would not support blocking highways either. None of that is going to make any difference for fighting what is happening with the climate. Reducing the population might make a difference but at this point in time what’s going to happen is going to happen. Because measures for population reduction were not taken a long time ago.

I still think we need to do a lot to try and do whatever we can of course.
