We need 51

...to do away with the negotiated 50-50 split in Senate committees.

It can stop the present calamity where tied votes have prevented legislation from being voted out of committee. It's a hedge against a ManSin-like hostage situation in committee where one senator holds up things like nominations. Provides for absent members... more.

We REALLY need enough to make the Manchins and Sinemas (yikes, I hope neither plural would play out) totally useless. They need to be that extra spare tire you keep in your garage.

As a black woman, to me that motherfucker is the walking embodiment of tens of millions of racists berks screaming the n-word.

I cannot handle seeing his ridiculously unintelligent, perpetually lying arse in the Senate for 6 years.

I thought holding the majority with VP Harris' tie-breaker vote enabled us to chair committees etc.

...even with VP Harris’s tie-breaking vote, Sen. Schumer will need McConnell’s support, because passing the organizing resolution requires 60 votes.

The organizing resolution determines everything from committee membership and staff budgets, to who gets the best office space.

that it could affect which party controls the Senate over next 6 years, not just the next 2 years. This is because it would keep this Georgia seat in possession of the democrats throughout those 6 years, and thus could make the difference in which party has the majority in the sessions after both the 2024 and 2026 elections.

I think unemployment will hold and inflation will trend down slightly once again

Plus we have another month of MTG being the poster child for the GQP. The people of Georgia will not vote for crazy.

Bye Herschel.

Will Murkowski win and then be so disgusted with the rest of her R colleagues that she decides to caucus with us?

I feel the chances of that are maybe 20-80, but that's better than some gave us to hold the Senate a week ago, so I wouldn't count it out altogether. Two or three speeches by Vance on the Senate floor, and she may be ready to decide that she is not in good company.
