He built an amazing ground game. Remember him as we celebrate.
John Ralston also understands his state way better than the hacks.

"Reid was as famous for mentoring up-and-coming political talent as he was for abruptly hanging up on senators and presidents without saying goodbye. In the many tributes to Reid since his death was confirmed Tuesday, we were struck by how many Democrats, including many younger ones, fondly recalled his role as a source of wisdom and encouragement."

We need more of that. I've read Obama has done that since leaving office.

(54,412 posts)I was once with Iowa's Rob Sand when he was in his first race for Iowa State Auditor. He was looking for any and all helpful advice, and I told him he should talk to Howard Dean. He said he'd love to, but how in the world does an unknown young guy from Iowa arrange THAT? I really like Rob, so I said, "well, in your case, you arrange it like this." I took out my phone, called Howard, explained who Rob was, and handed the phone to Rob. I thought they would talk for five minutes, but they talked for half an hour or more. I never asked for all the details, but Rob was the ONLY Iowa Democrat to win a race for statewide office that year. This year is looking a lot closer, but the numbers are breaking Rob's way, and I think he has won re-election.
Obviously, guys like Reid, Dean and Obama can't be like the shopping mall Santa, having fifty Democratic candidates waiting in line to sit on their laps for five minutes of election reality wisdom. But they aren't locked away, guarded by a dragon in some castle tower, either. Reaching out CAN land you with a valuable chat if you are fortunate. Just ask Rob Sand.
Thank you for sharing that amazing story!

That is the lesson.
Deference to one man or woman guarantees failure - ask the ReTHUGs this morning.
At the end of the day it is people power that counts.

(13,043 posts)One thing i'm so glad to see is more young people taking interest in our political process and exercising their constitutional right to vote & elect good leaders. They are the future and will determine the fate of our country going fwd. We need experienced leaders to scout & mentor younger ones.

(269,063 posts)We old folks need to let them take over. They are quite capable.
They showed up in the mid-terms. In fact Obama and others have been waking them up for some time.
They do not intend to bow to fascists or theocrats.

HARRISBURG Senator-elect John Fetterman is seeking applicants to work in his Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania offices. Fetterman announced on Friday the co-chairs for his transition committee: Adam Jentleson and Kristen Gentile.
Jentleson is a former deputy chief of staff to the late Harry Reid, who served as Senate majority leader from 2007 to 2015. Gentile is the current chief of staff to Fettermans fellow Pennsylvania senator, Bob Casey. Its no secret that I am new to Washington, D.C., but with the help of Senate veterans Adam and Kristen, I am certain we will be ready to serve the people of Pennsylvania and have an impact in what will be an exciting and challenging time, Fetterman said in a press release.
Gentile has worked in the Senate since 2002, according to the release, performing different roles in the offices of Senators Mark Dayton and Sherrod Brown as well as with Casey. She, too, served as a senior advisor to Casey when he joined the Senate in 2007.
Jentleson has nearly 20 years of experience in politics and advocacy, the release states.

(10,833 posts)Bring along the experience and savvy to navigate the territory. And wow! Harry Reid's former deputy chief of staff? And then Gentile's background?
Fetterman has been a rising star and that attracts talent. It's going to be exciting to watch what he can and will do in DC.

I remember when a strap on his exercise equipment broke and almost took his eye out and Republicans, and I believe it was the guy I recently talked about on Fox, Jesse Waters, made up all kinds of BS stories about "what really happened." I am 75 and I really would like to flatten Waters' nose and blacken his eye.
